CP3 was on pace for 42 pts and 48 assistssleeper;1781529 wrote:The all-star game is a waste of time. Basically just players launching the ball down court and laying it up or chucking 3 point shots.
I was hoping Paul George would break Wilt's 42 point record just to solidify how much of a joke the game has become. Pretty incredible in the no defense game that a player hasn't scored more than 41 since Wilt.
But only played 16 min

I guess I would prefer if they at least tried to make it a real game. I'm good with some showmanship and maybe some lax defense like not taking charges and tough on the ball defense but at least some semblance of a game would be nice.Ironman92;1781544 wrote:CP3 was on pace for 42 pts and 48 assists

Funny how they double-teamed George in the last minute so he couldn't get the record. They would've given up free dunks to everyone else.

7'0 with just post skills isn't very dominant anymore because 6'9 athletes are everywhere.Spock;1781595 wrote:Total lack of a big man anywhere in the NBA

Probably not, since those guys are too old to play in today's game.Spock;1781603 wrote:So no room for Wilt, Russel, Shaq, Ewing, Robinson, Jabar, Hakeem, Malone, Walton????

The best big men are all guys who are just rebounding/defensive monsters (Drummond, Howard, Whiteside, Jordan) or very athletic and have guard-like skills (Towns, Davis, Cousins).
It really just depends how you design your team. If you have one of the guys in the former group, you don't need to structure any offense around them.

George did get a wide open 3 with about 1 minute left in the 4th that he could have dunked but instead missed the 3. After that, they started double teaming him.Azubuike24;1781582 wrote:Funny how they double-teamed George in the last minute so he couldn't get the record. Sure, but I think to dominate like they did would be marginally more difficult as the size, breed and athleticism continues to increase.Spock;1781603 wrote:So no room for Wilt, Russel, Shaq, Ewing, Robinson, Jabar, Hakeem, Malone, Walton????
Moses Malone is now Demarcus Cousins
The game is different.

The argument goes both ways. Take an uber-athletic 6'10 guy like Rudy Gay who can play the 2, 3 or 4 and put him in the 1950's, without any other adjustments, he would be a freak of nature. He's only a decent NBA player in this era.

I thought Gay was 6'8
He's long as a 6'10 guy but didn't think he was that tall

Bill Russell would score 50 every night against someone like Gay.Azubuike24;1781619 wrote:The argument goes both ways. Ccrunner must be bored to bring his act to the NBA thread. He clearly hasn't watched a NBA game in years.

Yeah he basically admitted that when he said outside 5-6 of them, he wouldn't be able to distinguish the others from car salesmen. I'd be interested to know of the 25 or so playing, which 20 he wouldn't be able to recognize.like_that;1781643 wrote:Ccrunner must be bored to bring his act to the NBA thread. Was Lance actually a cancer in LA? I never read/saw anything saying he was. I know he wasn't playing much.Midstate01;1782159 wrote:LA gets Jeff green and gets rid of part of their team cancer in Lance Stephenson.
