Hard to compare golf and tennis. In men's tennis, it's an absolute stunner if an athlete outside of the top 25 wins a major. In golf, it's much more plausible. Heck, tennis is in the winding down of a 10-15 year span where you have 3 of the top 7 or 8 men's players of all time dominating simultaneously.

Marc Leishman is much better than these guys, but just using them as examples.

You were excited when Ben Curtis, Todd Hamilton and YE Yang won majors? We haven't heard from these guys since.

At the time they won, sure.

I'm not watching right now looking for the best interest of golfs future. Lol. I'm just watching for right now in the moment. And I don't dislike Leishman nor do I think him winning would make this any less exciting (other than if Speith for "sweeping the majors" reasons).

Im probably too involved in television to appreciate something like the underdog lol. It's fun, but the best bring the ratings, which pay the bills!

I'm with laley. I hate when flash in the pan golfers win majors. Leishman has a solid story at least though. His wife had about a 5% chance of living just 3 months ago and she has recovered.

Yeah that's good point too. Leishman also has at least been good on tour and really isn't a flash in the pan type guy either. For me I just want to see Spieth win it I've always liked him and just would be awesome for him to have a chance at the calendar slam. Also I'm hoping we get to see a playoff. This has been a great weekend of golf and I really don't want to start doing any work this afternoon.

Pissed my DVR didn't record but got home with 7 holes left.

Looks like a 4 hole playoff with Johnson and guessing Spieth and Louie

Leishman is definitely not a flash in the pan as much as others (T4 at Masters, T5 The Open). But, at the same time, would anyone be surprised if he missed 30% of the cuts for the rest of his career in majors? These other guys in this leaderboard are top 15 almost every major it seems.

Damn I really thought Leishman was going to make that birdie. If he hit that the Claret Jug would have been his.

Day and Oost. I think 1 of them get to -15, not sure -16 won't win though.

That putt by Day from the fairway is exactly why I love The Open. That was amazing.
