He can be indicted on federal charges of deprivation of rights under color of law, civil rights violations, that would not be double jeopardy. The federal government can charge him for civil rights violations.

No one will deny poor people and minorities have their own problems... crime being the biggest. Does crime need dealt with? Absolutely. But these systemic issues don't change until economic opportunity exists. And that isn't happening when poor/black people are forced into segmented portions of cities that have no opportunity. But that's a whole different issue that is definitely not worth talking to you about. We know your stance.

The opportunities are out there. Minorities and poor people get the large majority of scholarships and access to opportunities strictly because of the color of their skin. Equal opportunity was here 20 years ago; sorry that equal outcome is not achievable in reality.

From the beginning of time it's been this way. Poor people have more crime. That's true everywhere on this planet. Rich people have the power to keep them poor. We accept it b/c we see poor people as less than us.

That's the first step that we're just now approaching.
Nothing is going to change though until there's a political uprising by the poor and judgmental people, like yourself, become aware of the problem.

It's been a while, but I distinctly recall schools like UT and BG offering full rides for pretty average grades/ACT scores as long as you were a minority. Back in the day, you needed a 23 on your ACT and a 3.0 GPA to get a FULL RIDE to UT provided you were black/minority/non-white. Full ride for white people? 3.5 GPA and a 29 on your ACT.

Yeah, I feel so bad for minorities.

Anyways, I came from a poor family, got very good grades in school, stayed out of trouble, and earned a full ride to Ohio State graduated with high honors and getting a job that makes more than you could ever dream. Sorry that minorities are unable to do so.

Awareness isn't the solution, it's only the first step. But nothing will happen until people are aware of the problem. The problem is you want a big catch all answer for a solution. There isn't one. There's many solutions needed taken to solve the problem. Most importantly education. Actually funding education appropriately is our first step.

Well, for a real solution to the perceived problems with unequal protection of the law, etc. I think state and local governments need to start trying to come up with creative attempts at solutions to some of the Public Choice problems with government that libertarians have been talking about for years...

Back in the day if you thought the gubmint committed a crime you could hire a private lawyer to present the case to a grand jury instead of the prosecutor who goes to lunch every day with the defendant.

If there is a sense that injustice is perpetrated on the part of the government, The p00rz you don't like could hire the p00r lawyers on the billboards in the p00r neighborhoods to present the evidence at probable cause hearings, etc. and you remove the whole allegation that prosecutors aren't acting in good faith for Public Choice reasons, self-interest reasons, racist/discriminatory reasons, etc.

There ya go. A market-based solution to unjust police prosecution. Rather have those scumbag lawyers getting paid to keep the gubmint on its toes than get p00r people on social security disability mirite?

Those numbers are skewed because we jail for minor drug possessions while most other 1st world countries do not.

I stay away from the political forum so I don't know where everybody stands but BoatShoes is more right than anyone in combating "unjust police prosecution."

As boat said, you cannot have a fair system where the prosecutors and policemen work hand in hand in most cases and then you have to turn around and ask the prosecutor to prosecute the policeman. IMO there's nearly a 0% chance of impartiality. But that chance increases when you have neutral, outside prosecution.
