It is a pretty interesting move. They definitely needed to make some kind of change. Jennings has always been a great scout for talent so I'm sure that will help. I was really just hoping we'd bring in Trader Jack again.

He's only like 85. It was more of a joke anyway.

Had remembered the Astros hired their radio guy as the manager and looked it up...he at least was a former player.
Found this as the oddest hires for manager...one was Ted Turner

Fuck You Marvin Hudson. Stupid fucking home plate ump called a bullshit strike one on Harper.....Matt Williams chirps a bit from the dugout and during the chirping Harper steps out of the box and ump yells at him to get in the batter's box and Harper pointed to that he was right at it....ump pointed again and Harper angrily stepped in the box and the jackass tossed him. He might as well just flipped off 40,000 fans and the Nats announcers gave it to Hudson. Simply ridiculous

Agreed. Baseball umpires are by far the worst as far as egos go

Just is that whole culture of players and coaches going out and arguing calls. In the other sports they pretty much stay on the sidelines to say their peace.
Agree that umps are very confrontational and too many get rabbit ears.

Pirates up to six straight wins after sweeping Miami today, thanks to scoring all five of their runs in the seventh inning against some really horrible bullpen work after getting two outs.

Over .500 at 24-22. Granted, they were at home and are now heading to the west coast AND three of those six were against the Marlins and their imaginary manager, but six wins are six wins and the team is looking a lot more like a contender than they had been through April and much of this month.

That is the story of the Marlins season. I swear at least half there loses are due to blown leads in the 8th or 9th inning.

Nice bit o' recognition, since they've been as hot as any team over the past couple weeks.

Always liked that hill.

Our HS diamond has one in LC field so maybe that sways me into like that hill, but have heard other ML's hate it.

I just find it weird that it's been there for 15 years and now it's a bother.

Did the right person complain or get hurt navigating the hill? Follow them less and less since they went to the AL and now that Patrick Henry's Krauss doesnt play for them anymore I dont even look at their box scores.

Was always a unique aspect to the field. I wanna say the reds wanted to put on out there to replicate the Crosley Terrace but MLB said no.

I honestly don't know. I didn't read more on it. Just thought it was strange after 15 years to knock it down.

The Astros have built a lineup around power and a staff around limiting home runs. Their park, while HR friendly in LF, is not that that great in the other spots. This will only heighten their advantage and can be sold as a "safety measure." Truth is, many guys have gone up that hill and either misplayed the ball or gotten banged up from it. It can't all of the sudden be a problem.

Who leads the AL in homers hit? Houston
Who leads the AL in strikeouts? Houston
Who is 2nd in the AL in fewest homers allowed? Houston

Love what the Astros and others have done. The Twins? Yeah had them earmarked ahead of Tigers and Royals

George Springer won't last long playing like he does but love his fearlessness in RF

Brett Lawrie's broken bat went into the stands and caused a lot of bleeding to a woman and they are saying life-threatening.
