14-5 and w/o Cincy, he's 14-2. That's just bizarre. And enraging.

I think as long as he keeps pitching well and gets support, he'll be there at the end in the voting, though, just because he's very good in all his numbers and at the top in wins, although Wacha has nearly caught him. Getting support will be tricky tonight, though, since Kershaw hasn't given up anything in forever.

Neither Cole nor Kershaw was particularly sharp last night; about what you expect when you have a hyped pitchers' duel. At least the Pirates weren't able to fuck up all three bases loaded/none out situations they got, lol.

Liriano, not having a good day pitching so far, instantly changes the game with his offense, his first career HR, a opposite field shot just inside the foul pole with 2 out producing 3 runs to give the Pirates a 4-2 lead in the 2nd inning. Can he pitch thru 5 innings to qualify for the win if the Pirates can maintain the lead from here?

Pretty amazing stat. Home teams went 15-0 yesterday. Man what a nice payoff that would have been if someone parlayed them all.

This was my main gripe with the wildcard playoff extension. As it stands now the pirates have the second best record in the NL. If the regular season ended today, they would be rewarded with a one game playoff. I know there is still a lot of baseball left, but it's time to get rid of divisions.

I'm ok with that....or at least make it a 3 game series.

While this isn't hard to believe....it's also quite mind boggling.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/aroldis-chapman-s-blazing-fastball-blows-up-statcast-224836909.html

tl;dr .....Aroldis Chapman has thrown the fastest record pitch this season and also holds every spot through the top 101 places.

I'd be cool with a 3-game wild card series, but the one-game deal is just bullshit. At least last year, Madison Bumgarner would have had to pitch three consecutive complete game shutouts to eliminate them! Which he would have done most likely... But yeah, a one-game wild card "series" is just weak. And when, as it is right now, the two NL wild card teams are better than the other two division champs, it's really weak. The Mets and Dodgers should be playing for the right to face Pittsburgh/Chicago, not the other way around. Recent on-the-field results from the Pirates playing both those teams backs that up, too.

More ammo for like that's point

The NL Central has the team with the best record in baseball, the team with the 3rd best record in baseball and the 4th best record in baseball......and playing each other 19x. With the other two division leaders bring 9+ games back and Cubs/Pirates lead the next 4 1/2 back.

Only 1 team of the 3 will be able to advance past the NLDS as they'll all knock each other out.

Mike Fiers threw a no-hitter but might not have the top night as Cespedes is 4/4 with 3 Hr and 7 RBI thru 6 innings

If 1 of the next two Mets gets on base Cespedes will have a chance at one of the greatest offensive games ever
