Heard the same on 102.5 WDVE and on the Mark Madden show on 105.9 WXDX. Nothing yet on PPG website or the Trib.

Might just be me but I thought the offense performed pretty damn good.

IMO, they should bring back Mark Whipple who initially took Big Ben under his wing when he was the QB coach under Cowher. They had a very good relationship and Whipple is the OC at the University of Miami (FL) right now, wouldn't take much to pry him away.

Other than redzone production I agree. Ben throws for over 4,000 yards, Mendenhall rushes for over 1,000 and both Ward and Holmes had over a 1,000 receiving, hardly unproductive.

He does make some weird play calls at times, but I feel he really played to the strengths of this team. I don't think anyone they bring in will do that much better. If our defense plays like it typically does, one could argue we don't lose a game...and then BA would be safe.

I'm only an intern though...I'm done here in a couple of months....most likely will move on to another NFL team in a full time capacity doing the same stuff....I really don't want to leave Pittsburgh...I was always a Steelers fan so getting this internship was like a dream.

Big Snack wants to get paid and isn't happy about not getting a contract last off season. Assuming that he walks hoke takes over at NT and then depending on what gets done in free agency they go with either anthony davis from rutgers or patrick robinson from florida state. There are a few good, young oline free agents out there; maybe the steelers finally make a big move. Farrior might get cut in training camp if he doesn't get it together.

Rumors are that Tomlin talked to Hampton already and stressed that they want him to stay. They weren't on the best of terms coming out of training camp because the Steelers gave other players offers and Hampton felt overlooked, but I think the Steelers were correct in waiting given his position and the tendency of those guys to slow down about this time.

He had a good year, though, and probably still has a couple more solid years. I think franchise tag is the way to go that way it's just one more year and they can draft a nose tackle, maybe not first round but rounds 1-4 and get that guy ready for the following year.

I'm thinking maybe a guy like Sean Weatherspoon from Missouri in the draft.

Athletic linebacker that can run and cover to replace Farrior.

Patrick Robinson I think is overrated. I've seen him play and get toasted a lot.

I think they need a leader at inside linebacker. Someone that can captain the defense.

Robinson has very little starting experience but has fantastic physical skills; if they go DB hes really there only option without trading up.

Linebacker is really the least of this teams worries.

Outside linebacker isn't a worry but inside is.

Farrior is slipping and they could use a captain, an organizer.

Brandon Spikes is kind of a thug so probably not him. Rolando McClain might not be bad.

^^^More reason to convert to the 4-3 and use Harrison, Woodley, and Timmons as the backers :) Is it just me, or does Woodley's build fit that of an inside backer instead of an outside backer? The guy has arms the size of my legs. I think Timmons would be a better outside backer because he is fast and showed many times at Florida State that he can drop back and cover a RB out of the backfield. Granted the front 4 in the 4-3 wouldn't be much to brag about and is probably the reason that this suggestion is unreasonable, but just throwing the idea around.

It's going to take a lot of change to transition to a 4-3.

If they're deciding to do that then they're basically going into a full rebuilding mode.

I don't know that they're ready for that. They went 9-7 and lost a bunch of close games and didn't have Polamalu or Aaron Smith for most of the year.

They would have to think contending for the division and playoffs next year is still very realistic.

Draft options

Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee
Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama
Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida
Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama (if he enters)
Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri
Eric Norwood, LB, South Carolina
Dekoda Watson, LB, Florida State
Joe Haden, CB, Florida
Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida State

For linebackers it doesn't matter if they played outside or inside in college, some guys can transition to inside in a 3-4 like Timmons.

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like the OL coach Zierlein has been let go.

If true, I would like to see Goodwin move up to O line coach...he's the quality control guy now. He knows his stuff and would be a good fit.

I think Joe Burnett and more specifically Keenan Lewis could be a factor moving forward. It seems like Lewis was banged up all year but dude has talent.
