(Take off from favorite city thread)

I could never see myself (now) living in a smaller city less that 50,000 -70,000 population.
Note: Boothbay Harbor, Maine population less that 3000 could be that special place.

Cities with 200,000 population is pushing my limits, I love bigger cities but to live there is not an option for me, visit for a 2 weeks I’m Ok with that.

On the other end of the scale towns with less than 20,000 would have to be something special for me to live there.
I lived in Perrysburg, Ohio when the population was less that 15,000, wife an I first married, bought our first home Perrysburg will always have a special place in my heart.

What is your population city size living in comfort zone?

Would rather stay under 10k, preferrably under 5k like I currently do.

We have around 1200. Super small. I like living in a small community. It for sure has it's negative sides but the positives outweigh them.

I'm a small town guy. I grew up in a county that had 15,000 people -- one of the smallest in Ohio. Biggest community there had around 1,800 people.

I live in a town that has around 2,500 now. Don't really like "city" living. But, I wouldn't mind being closer to civilization at times for convenience of getting things or time out of the house.

My hometown has 1800 residents, which was perfect for my fam when we were growing up.

I plan to move to a smaller town outside of Akron eventually. I enjoyed Mogadore when I lived there. 3800 people, so a bigger population than I grew up with, but I wouldn't mind that. I also love it's proximity to Akron, Canton and CLE, which I did not have growing up.

Currently live within Cincinnati city limits. I wouldn't want to live in a larger city, I'm sick of living in the city in general.

I wouldn't want anything smaller than where I currently am....Toledo

I like big city because it offers way more in terms of shopping, grocery, entertainment etc. I've lived out in the country in Florida and driving 20 mins to get to a gas station isn't appealing to me. I love cities with subways so you can get to places without driving.

I grew up in small-town NEO, but after six years in a city I don't think I could ever go back. Lexington is a nice size but I could go probably 200,000 either direction and have no problems.

I lived in a small village in NWO up until 3 years ago I'd say it had a population of around 3,000 people. Now I live a city of close to 200K people and love it. Traffic can sometimes suck but its not that bad. I think I could easily live in a bigger city or go back to small town life.

I hated the small town when I was young. After living in cbus a few years and working there 13+ I have grown to hate cities. I like my quiet little spot in the country.

Driving in cities makes me crazy....I want to be able to go 50 MPH or more everywhere and driving 1 block and having to stop at traffic lights frustrates me. I like being near a city for entertainment purposes and sports teams, but I sure as hell don't want to live in one. I want/have a yard where I'm not looking at my neighbor's house, and he's not looking into mine. I want birds and trees and squirrels.....not cars and traffic.

We're in a good place for now. Don't live in a city at all, about 10 minutes from a city of 10,000, about 45 minutes from the "big" city.

I agree with all that. It's also nice to have a degree of peace and quiet, not hearing sirens blaring by regularly and, as a person who likes to play music and play it loudly, I enjoy having enough isolation to do so without worries of noise ordinances or angry neighbors.

I live close enough to larger areas that, when I want, I can go there to eat at better restaurants or have a good selection of stores to shop at. As long as I have that, I see no need to actually live in those places.

This is why I like Mogadore, small town (3800) but still really close to things to do (Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Youngstown).

My wife grew up in that type of nowhere in Mississippi. If you left "town" with less than a 1/4 tank of gas to go home, you weren't making it back the next day.

She lived on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. 20 min drive to "town", 1 hr and 15 minute drive to the nearest movie theatre, bowling alley, etc.

Oh, and this wasn't that long ago, she is only 36.

...live in Canfield just outside Youngstown & it's perfect for me. Not too many people(7500 in Canfield) and yet close enough to larger cities like Pittsburgh & Cleveland which are an hour drive in either direction.

Under 50K...anything more than that and it creates shitty drive times within city limits.

I could live anywhere on my own. With a family, I'd prefer under 25K as long as we are within an hour of a decent size city for entertainment.

That's pretty commonplace in much of America. I'm almost 30 and that's how I grew up, in Ohio. Where I travel through Arizona, Utah, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nevada, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, and even parts of Missouri, it's very common to see places like that. Heck, driving back from Denver in southeastern Colorado, very similar too.

That's also how the whole state of New Mexico seems to be.

I prefer small town. under 10k.
