USC has imposed sanctions on its men's basketball program for NCAA rules violations, including a ban on postseason competition at the end of this season, a reduction of scholarships and vacating all of its wins from 2007-08.

The NCAA should do a heck of a lot more than that.

...and btw, that is all self-imposed. The NCAA hasnt done anything yet. But the violations should be worse than what was self-imposed

It is disturbing that this seems to be the norm with USC athletics.

Mayo was a walking violation since he was in the 8th grade. He had his own website at that time and he was moving from state to state - school system to school system. He was always one or two steps ahead of the dog catchers! As a 21 year old freshman at USC, it looks like someone figured it out! To bad for USC, meanwhile, OJ and his posse have laughed all the way to the bank. This should have happened in high school be it in Kentucky, Ohio or West Virginia where all of the school administrators and athletic governing bodies looked the other way!

USC probably wouldn't trade the money they made off of Mayo for these self imposed penalties.

Dyno - When he left USC he was listed as being 21. Never surprised me - one of the reasons he kept changing states - he would never have been eligible as a High School senior in Ohio. Then, of course there's his taking of the ACT test - went from something like a 14 on the 1st take to a 29 on the second. We all know this happens all of the time! I'm sure that was legit too! You can probably tell that I'm not a fan of Mayo or his tribe!

That's a huge flaw in the NCAA system IMO. The coach can move on and the player is long gone, but the players who are there now are paying the price. (Much like OSU players did after Obrien was fired.)

If they're going to punish the kids who are there, they should at the very least punish the coach who left.

Funny how Mayo never has, or will receive punishment. The NCAA needs to rethink some of their rules.

If we live in a capitalist society, then why do the power brokers make all the coin and not the performerrs? And this goes for football and basketball players.

College sports are money making machines for those in administration and coaching. Why should the head coached in amateur sports command in some instances 5 times the amount paid to the president of the school? Renumerate the players commeasurate with what the market bears. Giving Mayo a scholly only was peanuts in comparison of what Mayo brought to the University. (ESPN games out the ass, crowd sellouts and the rest)

There should be a law that takes a % of the money from the first pro contract of criminals like Mayo.

I don't disagree with this. But how exactly do you purpose the NCAA to do anything to players who are LONG gone to the NBA? I am not sure what they could do.
The thing that bothers me more then anything...is that the coaches often skate for free. Or at worst, get a slap on the wrist. They may get fired, but they resurface not long after again.
Until someone starts to hold those who are IN CHARGE(head coaches), the ones who are in fact, more times then not, associated with the "runners", this won't go away anytime soon.
