Signee news...

Larry Asante (5th rd) is now signed.

The Browns have only signed their last 3 picks.

Most teams are much farther along in signing their picks.

Not a single first rounder in the NFL is even signed.

The NFL will eventually have a rookie salary structure like the NBA does. Sadly, it's going to probably take a lockout and the loss of all or part of an NFL season to get there.

I bet they're all signed by the start of Training Camp. Haden is the only real threat of a hold out, Bradford is holding up most of the first rounders contracts.

In semi-related Browns news...Colt McCoy was married this weekend. Shipley sang him this little ditty....enjoy!

Actually, the lockout/strike problem is from percentage of revenue going to the players.

But I think it's safe to say that the majority of players (i.e., those already in the league) feel it's best for the veterans to make the money and not the hotshot rookies who haven't proven crap. So, in that respect, as long as the NFL caves to the PA in regard to percentage of revenue, the PA will definitely be in favor of a rookie pay scale maximum (including a maximum on guaranteed money).

Browns sign RB Montario Hardesty
Posted Jul 26, 2010

a a The Browns have signed RB Montario Hardesty, the team announced Monday afternoon.
The Cleveland Browns today signed running back Montario Hardesty to a multi-year contract, the team announced. Hardesty was selected in the second round (59th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft, a pick acquired from Philadelphia for a third-round and two fifth-round selections. Hardesty is the sixth of the Browns’ eight 2010 draft choices to sign.

Hardesty started 19 of 49 games at the University of Tennessee (2005-09), registering 2,391 rushing yards with 26 touchdowns. He also recorded 38 receptions for 405 yards with one score during his collegiate career. Born on February 1, 1987, the 6-0, 225-pound Hardesty is a native of New Bern, N.C., where he attended New Bern (N.C.) High School.

Yep. And given Hardens fondness of the Warehouse district I expect him to sign ASAP.

But seriously, where has BR been?

Couple updates from camp:

Saturday, July 31, 2010
11:27 am A capacity crowd of 3,500 - and then some - showed up to the first day of Browns training camp today. Fans were stopped at the gate and were allowed in only when others departed.
11:21 am Browns Pro Bowl KR Josh Cribbs on deciding to stay in Cleveland while hoops superstar LeBron James bolted for Miami: "It's the fans. If anyone asks me what Cleveland has to offer, I say they have the most diehard fans ever."
11:19 am Seneca Wallace didn't throw today like a QB who feels destined to be Jake Delhomme 's backup. "I'm striving to push him," he said. "Even if they're saying he's the starter, I've got to push him."
11:13 am Browns LB Matt Roth had asked to be traded early in the offseason, but was all smiles today. "That's in the past," he said. "I'm happy to be here." Roth was a revelation in 2009 as one of the team's premier pass-rushers.
10:24 am The Browns' plans for RB Peyton Hillis is already quite apparent. He's catching a number of balls out of the backfield.
10:18 am CBs Eric Wright and Sheldon Brown and safeties T.J. Ward and Abram Elam are working with the first team. S Mike Adams is in the mix, but is playing with the second-teamers today.
10:16 am The most impressive Browns QB today has easily been Seneca Wallace, who has been right on target with his short and deep throws.
10:11 am Browns rookie RB Montario Hardesty, who signed early this week, is nowhere to be found. He is expected to battle Jerome Harrison for the featured back spot.
10:08 am Browns RT Tony Pashos is ill and sidelined today. The expected starter at that spot is being spelled by Floyd Womack with the first-teamers.
10:03 am Chansi Stuckey is getting first-team reps over Josh Cribbs today. Both will fight for the Browns second WR spot alongside Mohamed Massaquoi.
9:44 am Browns ILB D'Qwell Jackson, who is in a mad scramble for a starting spot, received loud kudos from his defensive teammates by clobbering RB Peyton Hillis in 1-on-1 drills.
9:35 am Both Jake Delhomme and backup Seneca Wallace are hitting their targets in stride in passing drills. Accuracy was a huge problem for the now-departed Browns QBs last season.
9:24 am Offseason acquisition Peyton Hillis missed much of OTAs with an undisclosed illness, but the Browns' RB is here for the start of camp. Hillis will likely battle for time in short-yardage and passing situations.
9:17 am The Browns are already prepared to hit. They are in full pads this morning.
8:58 am Rookie CB Joe Haden is the lone holdout as the Browns open camp today. Negotiations with the first-round pick are in full swing and he's expected in soon.

Capacity crowd of 3500? The steelers are expecting 15000 today and average 10000 throughout camp.

Browns training camp is held in Berea, Ohio.. The outdoor facility isn't all that big. Not many bleachers or anything.

Trust me, it has nothing to do with how many people would actually show up.

Gamedays prove that.

Very happy to see Joe Haden signed though. I think our secondary is going to be very strong this year. If our D-Line can hold serve, out DB's in Rob Ryans system will finally have the ability to fly around and make plays.

Hardesty is an injury machine. That was the main reason I didn't like that pick.

This has been his first injury in two years. Hopefully it is a mere apparition and not a sign of things to come because he seems to have some real talent.

LOL, a sprained knee can happen to anybody. That's not an injury I'd be worried about.
