I never said I thought it hurt the show, or even anything negative for that matter. To say the first 20 minutes were not slow would be a lie. It certainly doesn't make someone "fucking dense".ernest_t_bass;1717815 wrote:Not really

Heard they might bring Gus back too. Really like the Chuck twist.

I really enjoy this show. It has some tie ins that Breaking Bad fans will get but it is standing on its own as a quality show.
The Mike sequence with the other enforcers was classic.

Very solid first season. They are setting things up and telling a very good story. It might not be fast paced or action packed but the writing and acting is fantastic. I'm ready for season two.

I'm surprised (not all that disappointed) that they had him convert to Saul so quick. Now, I know he's not immediately Saul, but they had him embrace (what seems for good), the role of Slipping Jimmy.

The writing and acting have been solid, with some great moments. But Vince clearly has a lot of rope and is using it - none of that happens and this show would probably be DOA if not a Breaking Bad spin-off.
Agree it has a lot of potential, but "slow" is a gross understatement. Perhaps it was necessary to establish some moral ambivalence in that, at the heart, Mike and Jimmy are good guys....so they can do some very bad things down the road.
Like I said, the quality of writing and acting is there, but in terms of being the compelling drama most people are expecting....a long ways to go. I have a feeling the first season may come to be almost background or a prologue, and people will be like "just skip the first season and start with S2" because the rest will probably stand on its own. But in that regard, S1 was probably a brilliant move to suck-in and satisfy BB fans...maybe even a masterful way to launch a spin-off to transition that core audience.

Bob Odenkirk's explanation of the "Chicago Sunroof" better earn him a damn Emmy.

I agree. I really enjoyed the entire season. Some moments were better than others, but overall I really liked the storytelling. I am excited for season two.cat_lover;1719963 wrote:Very solid first season. They are setting things up and telling a very good story. Most of the complaints I have seen about this season are from people who wanted him to be Saul right off the bat....like two or three episodes in. I think that would have been silly. Like I said earlier in this thread, we know where he ends up. I liked seeing his beginnings.ernest_t_bass;1719965 wrote:I'm surprised (not all that disappointed) that they had him convert to Saul so quick. Fab4- Totally agree. Watching him become Saul is very entertaining. His "Chicago Sunroof" explanation and Bingo meltdown was classic. "He wanted soft-serve, I gave him soft-serve."

Just finished the finale. This season was fantastic. "Chicago Sunroof" was amazing, and the Slippin' Jimmy cons were great.
This whole season was awesome.

Breaking Bad season 1 was short and had a similar flow from what i remember, some fast paced exciting scenes some slower. I Think this was very similar in that fashion, but it's hard to make a lawyer as exciting as a cancer patient turned drug dealer. I think the seasons can only get better and more interesting from here now that a foundation for the characters have been set. If he were Saul right off the bat, the show would get old real fast imo.

Has nothing to do with the words. Everyone on here has liked the first season, a lot of the reviews online are great, yet here comes gut talking about how it was a little too slow and saying things like establish some moral ambivalence.gut;1720465 wrote:I'll try to use smaller words next time. shit better start getting interesting. last year was a pretty slow build. I'll give them a pass for that, since they were telling the backstory to Saul Goodman.
