If I'm going to bet my wife and kids on a car in the ice and snow, then I'm putting them in a Subaru...hands down, without question, period. And I'm speaking from experience.

If you know how to drive, car doesn't matter. AWD isn't going to save you from ice and snow.

AWD will most certainly help you on ice and absolutely be much better in the snow.

My wife doesn't drive NASCAR.

The traction assist in my Honda pulls me thru slippery conditions and keeps me straight. I'm pretty comfortable in that thru most conditions, but if I'm going out in really bad weather, I'll take the Subaru. It is much more solid in the worst of conditions.

I don't think you have a wife and children yet, because if you do, and you can afford it, you want them travelling in the safest car possible....you start looking at these things, safety ratings and the like. Subarus are reasonably priced, last forever, and have great resale value. It's a no-brainer for me. I don't care about image when it comes to my family's safety.

My mom is a terrible driver, but she had several Subarus and never any trouble in the snow. (Before she retired she was a nurse and she always said people still get sick even in bad weather so she never called into work. )

I have both. My wife drives an AWD car and I don't think it's any better than any FWD car I've driven in the snow. I've also had a RWD car with snow tires, had zero problems in the snow. I think people see AWD and think it's invincible in the snow.

Who happens to own two Subarus and works for a dealership that has 11 new car brands to choose from.

I definitely agree that some people with awd are freaking morons in the snow. Awd doesn't make snow disappear. But I have a 4wd truck that occasionally gets stuck in the snow. I pop it into 4wd and drive away easily so I'm sure 4wd/awd>2wd in snow.

I think people see 4x4 trucks and big SUVs and think they're invincible. I see those all the time off the road stuck. I don't see Subarus along side of the road because they were over confident.

Entirely depends on the conditions. Occasionally we get enough snow or pure ice where AWD has its benefits. For the most part I do agree many fwd cars with good tires will get you through. I've also had a few occasions where the rear end got loose in a FWD car.

I also agree many times you see SUV's/4x4 pick ups in the ditch because of their overconfidence.

Why are we talking about Subarus? It's a junk car for junk people; if you ever see me in one its because I've lost my job and need a cheap car to live in.

Are you new here? Any time people ask about cars, it is guaranteed that Oberhaus will attempt to talk them into a Subaru, because he deals Subarus.

Much love, ober.

I don't have a problem with that, but it's going to take more than "A Subaru is a great car" for me to ever consider it above "junk" status. The company has a long way to go to market towards anyone making above a minimum wage salary.

People making min wage have no chance of buying a new car.

Oh really? It's easy to afford a brand new car when you don't pay for food, housing, cell phones, insurance, healthcare, childcare, etc. I guess you have to have no moral character and be a piece of shit, but DC has plenty of those type who manipulate and abuse the system.

Quit being a d-bag. Subbies are great cars.

Do some research before making stupid opinionated comments. Many Subaru's review (JD Power for example) above average for quality and reliability.

So basically JD power got paid by Subaru to say their cars were great; more so than Ford or Honda gave them. Great, are you really that naive?
