ESPN obtained medical charts that show Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul had right index finger amputated today.

I've heard so much back and fourth on what ESPN and Schefter violated, if anything legally. I think it was in poor taste unless they had permission from JPP to post it.

HIPPA only applies to Doctors giving out information on patients.

ESPN did nothing legally wrong, but what they did was indeed, very, wrong. You just dont cross that line.

That might not be entirely true about ESPN doing nothing legally wrong. Depending on the state law there could be damages for invasion of privacy or another similar violation.

But just from a perspective about wanting to have good relationships with players for interviews and such, that looks about as sleazy as you can get.

It's not the reporting that his finger was gone, it was the publishing of his medical records.

It applies to all medical personnel and it basically ensures you're not involved with a patient you're not suppose to be. If my neighbor comes into the ER, I can't legally open up her chart and looking to see why. It also goes beyond electronic medical records. I'm not suppose to ask my coworkers about a patient I had last week because I'm not involved in their care anymore. That sort of stuff. It bothers people because you're not even suppose to look into your very own medical records if you were ever a patient unless you first sign an authorization form.

So I don't think Schefter violated any HIPPA laws. But I can't fathom how whoever took the picture of the surgery schedule and sent it out did it legally.

Damn, 6 years $59.2 million for Cam Heyward. I knew he was better last year but not that much better.

The way I understand things from doing a bit of reading is that they signed him earlier than some other guys have signed, meaning that if he performs up to their expectations based on his improvement since he started, it'll be a good bargain. I supposed you could compare it in baseball terms to deals like what Pittsburgh gave McCutchen and Cleveland gave Kipnis, where if it works out and the player is successful, it's a great deal.
