Usually way ahead with Xmas shopping, I've slacked this year. Everyone else is easy, but shopping for my parents always seems to be the most difficult. I feel that I've gotten them everything over the years. I'll think of something clever or new then go figure....they already fucking have it.

This thread could be useful for others in the same boat.

What have you purchased for your parents for the upcoming holiday?

My parents are in their mid-70's. I usually ask for a list of things/projects that need to be done around the house. I have some construction background....this years project is to install new kitchen cabinets/countertops. Save them the cost of labor!

My parent passed away years ago and so has my wife parents.
Buy for parents is a difficult task but maybe I can help.
Our kids buy a gift for both of us … a combined present
That way all three daughters can chip in on the cost and it makes it all equal. Plus if one daughter is having problems the other two chip in more and all is good…

The wife and I have everything we need so our kids have the same problem as you..
Here are some of their gifts to us…

Gift cards for dinning out is a standard gift … Stocking stuffer
Ammo for our hobby was nice …. Stocking stuffer

The weekend stay in a cabin in Hocking Hills was great
Balloon ride in the summer was really a fun gift
My kids know that wife and I love seafood … 10 pounds of frozen King Crab Leg (note: They got their share of the gift at New Year Dinner)

Don’t buy gifts that have to be refurbish or built … not a good idea, pain in the ass

Wonderful hanging (with a chain) wicker swing for two http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/International-Caravan-Resin-Wicker-Hanging-Loveseat-Swing/5093606/product.html

Hammick for two (good one with a cloth swing)

Broadway Show tickets .. we love going to Broadway production
Weekend trip on a Paddle Boat on the Ohio River ..

I don't care what the Bible calls it.

Btw, that's a solid gift!

Belly might be on to something here. My dad has a baller grill, direct gas line from the house. He likes to grill in the winter occasionally on the weekends.

Well it is the reason for the season so.......

Yeah, we had no idea what to get as the parents have everything so thought this would be something they would like and never do on their own.

My mom is always easy. TWSS. She is my bestie, so I know what she loves and what she does and doesn't have. This year I got her folded book art. She has an area with family pics all over the wall/shelves, and it will fit in perfectly. Sometimes all seven kids go together to get her a big gift, like a laptop, Kindle, etc. Anyway, she is always simple to buy for.

My stepdad is also pretty easy. He likes beer, guns, sweat pants, tools...pretty much all man stuff. We got him an AR-15 last year. This year I got him a personalized beer mug to display by his bar, plus I will get him two mix and match six packs of beer he has never tried.

My dad is the tough one. I like to go sentimental. It's funny watching a BA Vietnam vet get all teary over a gift. I have gotten him framed pictures, a picture collage on canvas, etc. I am completely stumped this year, though. I might go with a bottle of cologne since he gets me perfume every single year. Kind of a gag gift, but also something he will actually use.

From a brief Wiki search:
The "-mas" part is from the Latin-derived Old English word for Mass,[SUP][1][/SUP] while the "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός which comes into English as "Christ".[SUP][2]
[/SUP]There is a common misconception that the word Xmas stems from a secular attempt to remove the religious tradition from Christmas[SUP][3][/SUP] by taking the "Christ" out of "Christmas", but its use dates back to the 16th century.
So, let's not pollute this site with stupid-ass "War on Christmas" bullshit, since only fucking morons actually believe in that stuff.

I use "Xmas" all the time out of laziness. Just like I often say "Happy Holidays", not because I'm politically correct (fuck that shit) but because it's easier to say than "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year." I'm all about efficiency. :D

Nah, you just did a better job of doing that to yourself than I could. Besides, I'm getting into the Xmas spirit, so that'd just be mean of me.

Precisely. Saves a lot of effort for the important things in life. Working out, partying, fucking...the works.

I do appreciate the history lesson though.

Thanks.

You either just gave your dad a whole lots of free time while she is busy on the tablet, or an ulcer from listening to her bitch about how to use it.

Dad's going to get slippers and a CD. Mom... not sure. My wife takes care of the lady stuff, but I think she's getting an iTunes gift card, lotions, and other woman stuff.

Mom's getting a plush rob. Apparently, my dad likes to have the a/c on year round so my mom is always cold. I got my dad one of those bowls with the shaving soap in it from The Art of Shaving.
