Don't know what Rivers contract length is, but a few years of competent play at the QB position, which most likely means playoffs, would be refreshing. Especially when history shows the 1st round pick will most likely be underwhelming.
Rivers has one year left on his contract, I believe.

He was born in Alabama so it would make sense.

And don't get me wrong, I've been of the mindset to "build up the O-Line/defense and win ugly until that franchise QB comes along" but will it ever come? I don't see any in the coming drafts. How long will we have to wait?

The Philip Rivers thing is a pipedream but if there is the smallest chance that they can get him, sign him to an extension and he would WANT to be here, you DO it. Yeah, Rivers is 33 but he's still playing at a very high level. He's not Tom Brady but Brady is 37 so Rivers probably has a few years of high level play left.

Sure. This team with a healthy Alex Mack and Rivers at QB would have been at least a 11 win team.

And they'd be a legit playoff contender as long as Rivers stayed healthy. I may be wrong but I don't think Rivers has missed many, if any, games in his career. I thought he actually played with a torn ACL in a playoff game.

As long as Roethlisberger and (maybe) Flacco are in this division, the Browns are going nowhere without a QB. The table has been set with enough piece around a good QB to win NOW. They just need to find him.

Since you seem to know, what/who is? And DON'T say Cardale Freakin Jones.

He's not a long term solution but there's not a long term solution in sight. If you can get a legit QB to keep you in the playoff mix for 3-5 years. I don't see why not.

There is currently no solution. Phillip Rivers is a journeyman QB who's never won anything; he's not even worth even considering trading a single asset for.

Haha...typical.

Rivers isn't a "journeyman." He's never had a year with less than 21 TD passes. Last year, his O-Line was depleted and pretty much had no running game. Put him in Cleveland and he'd probably thrive. The only hinderance that he'd have would be the receiving corps but SD's receivers aren't the best in the league either.

Rivers is light years better than anything this franchise has probably ever seen (including Kosar & Sipe) and would give the offense and team instant credibility. I agree that he's not a "long term solution" but until they find that, he'd be just what they need, if he were available and willing to come here.

I'm so tired of this "build, build, build" mentality. At some point you've got to get the QB. I can't be the only one who is tired of seeing shitty QB play and playing the perennial "waiting game" hoping the Browns luck into a legit QB.

It doesn't matter. If I have the choice of a) watching Rivers lead the team to the playoffs for 2-3 years while trying to find his replacement vs b) watching Brian Hoyer, Josh McCown, Jake Delhomme, Charlie Frye, etc put up 5 points per game while they play "tough defense" I'm taking option "a."

Would you rather have Rivers or Eli Manning? Please say Manning since he has "won something", it will prove my lingering point.

Andrew Luck has never won anything, you wouldn't take him if the opportunity arose?

Not at the price he would command, unless he was a FA.

Except Rivers is not a free agent and would command an additional asset. Rivers - that asset would not be good enough to win a Super Bowl so I'm not sure why you are content with trading assets for an old QB who has already well surpassed his potentially of never winning anything and expect him to come to Cleveland and do anything relevant.

They aren't crazy. What's crazy is Brown's fan want to throw assets at a has been QB who's never won anything just so we can make the playoffs(allegedly btw) while we wait for a real long term solution; which conveniently will just fall into our lap with the draft picks playoff teams get. That is crazy.

Got it. You're one of those types who would prefer to muddle along, hoping they someday find the QB, while being a laughingstock the whole time, versus bringing in a top tier QB to make them relevant while looking for that same QB. And that comment about not paying the price for Andrew Luck was so "over the top/sleeper" I almost spit out my water laughing.

LOL @ Rivers being a "top tier QB". Come on, he sucks and you know it.

I mean is the point of the NFL to make the playoffs or to win a super bowl? Rivers MAY be able to achieve the former but has a snowballs chance in hell of winning a super bowl. In the long run, it's best to suck until you get a top tier talent at QB. Plugging away at mediocrity for years doesn't work.

I know sleeper is just trying to be a dick, as usual, but I agree that I wouldnt go after Rivers unless they were basically giving him away.

He is a very, very good QB, no doubt about that. But he is old. 1 more year on his contract right? And the browns are more than just a QB away from being legit contenders.

Almost cannot discount him playing in sunny san diego his whole NFL career. Weather in the AFC North isnt something that is easily adaptable I wouldnt think.
