I would look at @ClevStrikesBack timeline https://twitter.com/ClevStrikesBack for a pretty interesting take. Basically Shanahan is the dysfunctional one.
After reading this, I don't disagree http://mweb.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/24375961/kyle-%20shanahan-staff-inexperience-at-core-of-redskins-dysfunction

I agree that he is a whiny little bitch who has received jobs because of his last name, but to send him texts during games on what plays to run by the front office? That is bs as well.lhslep134;1694116 wrote:I would look at @ClevStrikesBack timeline https://twitter.com/ClevStrikesBack for a pretty interesting take. Basically Shanahan is the dysfunctional one.

They will be better off without him.
As for he and RGIII not hitting it off......seems like RGIII is onto this second coaching staff that he has been at odds with....

Based on our frustrations with his shitty playcalling throughout the season, I wish he had listened to the FO when they texted him. He's been our 2nd best OC since 99, but that's not saying anything.

With the trainwreck that is Manziel and Gordon (if he's still with the team), HBO probably has major wood at the thought of the Browns being on there. I can see them catching JFF putting vodka in his water bottle now.thavoice;1694140 wrote:Will be one of their higher rated teams in rcent memory I would think.

If JFF is on the roster, HBO will be all-in with the Browns.
I dont recall the exact rules the NFL/HBO have for the show...but, gotta imagine the Browns wont be allowed to reject.

Criteria is that 1) can't have a rookie head coach (probably why Haslam kept Pettine aroundLaley23;1694161 wrote:If JFF is on the roster, HBO will be all-in with the Browns.

That is criteria for the show...there is more about if the teams can decide to say no, right?BR1986FB;1694162 wrote:Criteria is that 1) can't have a rookie head coach (probably why Haslam kept Pettine around) and 2) can't be coming off a playoff year so they meet both of those.

Found it. I thought the teams could individually turn it down once every so many years. But, that appears to be made up in my head lol.
1. Teams that have appeared on Hard Knocks in the last 10 years.
2. Teams with new head coaches.
3. Teams that have made the playoffs in either of the last two years.

I don't think so. It sounds like the NFL can force them to be on Hard Knocks if they have a second year coach and didn't make the playoffs.Laley23;1694166 wrote:That is criteria for the show...there is more about if the teams can decide to say no, right?
According to that link "The Browns biggest competition for the series would seem to be any franchise that selects Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, the New Orleans Saints, the Washington Redskins or the Philadelphia Eagles."

Good news regarding dline, this draft is deep. Esp at DT. Malcom Brown made it official today, declaring for the draft.
Williams, Shelton, Brown, Bennett, Goldman (if he declares, I assume he did/will). Pretty damn deep. Gotta hit.

I think COA may have hit the nail on the head with this Shanahan situation. It's sounding more & more like Shanahan is the villain here and is coming across like the "bitch boy."

Early reports are that Raiders QB coach, John Defilippo will be the frontrunner for the Browns OC gig. He interviewed for the position last year. Also heard Marc Trestman could be in the mix. Here's an old article on Defilippo...

I think both parties have some part of the play here, going up to the owner. However, this yr I don't buy the ZOMG Owner/GM/HC aren't on the same page mess we've experienced in the past. Shannahan has a history of being a bitch, so fuck him. Get on the bus, or get the fuck out far as I'm concerned. His QQing about front office texting him about plays, I highly doubt that only happens in Cleveland. Don't think Jerry Jones has told an OC to run a play before? Why the need for shannahan to say that publicly?BR1986FB;1694239 wrote:I think COA may have hit the nail on the head with this Shanahan situation. Remember, if it weren't for the browns, he would have been out of football last season. His dad doesn't get a job, wouldn't be surprised to see him a coaching FA.
I know I've said this a few times already, but I want to say it again. Browns offense ranked 27th in pts, 23rd in yards. Hardly call him a huge loss. Same guy couldn't get a RB in rhythm consistently, get Gordon/Cameron the ball, and ran the same FUCKING run play OVER AND OVER despite it not working. Never gott RB in space, rarely ran a screen/dump pass etc....
Many in here said they weren't impressed with his playcalling/production. I wanted to keep him here for the sake of continuity, but outside of that DGAF that he's not here. New OC has to get the new guys to buy in, be creative, and stick to the running game. Browns aren't going to be much better at the QB spot unless something drastic happens, but that doesn't mean we're going to suck. Look at the bengals, they won the division with a below avg QB. Get the ball to your studs, run the fucking ball and play great def. Browns can do that.

Shit, when Romo got hurt Jerry Jones walked down the field to tell Garret that Romo can return to the field. My guess is the texting was an isolated incident, but people like thavoice are making it out to be an every sunday occurrence.Commander of Awesome;1694245 wrote:I think both parties have some part of the play here, going up to the owner. As a QB coach and OC, he has a pretty good track record (this includes coaching Kosar). He turned an old ass journeyman rich gannon into a MVP QB for crying out loud. Some guys are just meant to be assistant coaches. Trestman, Crennel, Weis, Marinelli, Marvin, etc are prime examples of that.Commander of Awesome;1694254 wrote:I'm indifferent to him. I think Trestman's issue in Chi Town was having a douche bag for a QB.

Rich Gannon was a long time ago. Not going to JO to something a guy did 10 years ago. Also he wasn't complete garbage before Testman, and didn't hurt that he was throwing to Rice. I wouldn't QQ about Trestman, but I think there are better options.like_that;1694257 wrote:As a QB coach and OC, he has a pretty good track record (this includes coaching Kosar). Doesn't hurt, but still about 30x better than any QB in a browns uni since 1990. Win with what you got, and he has 4 offensive pro bowlers that didn't win 6 games. That's not good enough.wildcats20;1694260 wrote:I think Trestman's issue in Chi Town was having a douche bag for a QB.
I hope we get another Zone Blocking Scheme OC. It's what our scouts are been scouting for all season, proven system, etc...

I realize that upper management needs to keep their noses out of the playcalling but wouldn't this make Shanahan a tad "toxic?" If Shanahan was the snitch, who is going to want to hire a rat?
If he goes into an interview and they ask him "why did you leave Cleveland?" and he replies "because the QB was forced on me and then the owner texted me plays he wanted to run from the pressbox", what kind of owner is going to want this? If he's a snitch when he leaves Cleveland, he'd be a snitch if he leaves Seattle, Tampa, Chicago, etc.
