JMHO....I'm all aboard on the first round picks, but less enamored with day2. I think BR has a point...this team is going to be a terrible watch next season. In a passing league, we will be like a throwback to 1960. I can see us dominating a game for 57 minutes and then losing it in the final 3 minutes.

Traded 2nd pick to Arizona...anyone know what for?

It also goes back to what you said earlier about burning a 1st on Manziel. They probably couldn't get what they wanted at QB this year so they are loading up with safer/smashmouth type picks to put around him for the future. See what you've got at QB this year and if they suck, try again next year.

Points will be at a premium this year and it's probably going to be some ugly football. I doubt Farmer scraps his gameplan but had they landed a QB earlier we might have seen a WR taken at an earllier point in the draft. Other than that I see Farmer as someone who stays true to his board.

I don't see an offense designed around Manziel's abilities being boring. It might not be successful, but it definitely won't be boring so I don't know why you guys are bitching that it will be

They are going about this the smart way. If there was a QB on the roster that they thought was worth a shit, I bet they'd be drafting playmakers.

Look at Pitt & Indy....they have shitty defenses yet elite QB's. They will usually add an offensive weapon or two for that QB while biding their time, trying to fix their defenses. In the case of Pittsburgh, I'd bet they will be a "cyclical" team. By the time Roethlisberger runs out of gas they will probably have an elite defense, with a crappy offense again.

This is what it looks like Farmer is trying to do to me....loaded up the defense & run the ball, hoping to steal a 13-10, 17-13 type win at the end until they can get a franchise QB.

This is why I refer to it as "Mangini Ball." Sure, Mangini was crappy at talent evaluation but he wanted tough/smart players (see Farmer). Mangini just wanted a puncher's chance at the end and knew he didn't really have the QB to do it. You could also refer to it as "Pete Carroll Ball" but he has the QB to do it but he, Mangini & Pettine seem to have similar philosophies.

I have a friend on facebook bitching and moaning about not drafting a WR early so I'm going to post what I said on there. Feel free to disagree, just sharing my thoughts:

Why do you value WRs so much? Haven't the Seahawks and Patriots just showed that you don't need to spend draft capital on a WR to be successful? There are so few WRs that can succeed independently of their QB that you need to spend a high draft pick on them. After that, wasting valuable draft capital on a WR is pointless unless you have a QB that can put the ball in spots for the WR to succeed. I don't see one on our roster.

So what is Farmer doing? Giving Manziel/McCown the best chance to succeed by shoring up the trenches and defense in an effort to increase the margin for error from the QB position.

It's spot on.

One thing that I don't think a lot of people factor into drafting a projected "elite" WR high is the ego factor. These guys were used to putting up, in many cases, gaudy numbers in college. I'm not going to stereotype all WR's as divas but if they are putting up lofty numbers in college and come to a "run first" type system, I could see a WR getting disgruntled after his rookie season. Plus, if he's not putting up the numbers in year one, whether by his fault or not, there's always those high expectations/"is he a bust" speculation going into year two. If Manziel/McCown balls out this year, THEN grab the playmakers, but I agree with your assessment about having the QB who can "put it in spots."

Browns take Charles Gaines (CB-Louisville), Malcolm Johnson (TE-Miss St) and Randall Telfer (TE-USC) in the 6th

So we took a nickel cb, a fb, and an oft injured TE with our 6th round picks.

If what chip Kelly offered the Titans was true and they turned it down it's obvious the Browns weren't getting MM. So without a franchise QB available they got better at positions they needed to get better at. While they lack a game breaker they don't lack guys who can get the job done.
