Then you have been misinformed.rrfan;1705881 wrote:Still not convinced that will happen. Heard some things this weekend that are very strong and from reputable people saying this is far from a slam dunk. Kind of like 4 people trying to get in with only three spots and Orrville is still not wanted in by a few schools...

It sure does seem that the people who will make the call on leaving are convinced this is a done deal.

I don't think anybody is feeding bull on either side. But I do think this thing is not nearly as close to done as many think and I really don't think we are in the three selected at this point. It could change but what would change it? I really trust the person I was talking to and they basically said there is a snag that is not going to get fixed and we would be the odd man out. Who knows but to say this is a done deal I think is a long way off.
PS some of the students are not happy about it either. Some (against popular opinion on here) do not want to leave the OCC.

It has been and will continue to be a great league for our girls sports...no argument there. This decision IS being made with football and boys basketball in mind. Football feeds the other sports! I have heard from a few former girl athletes from Orrville who are not in favor of the potential move to the PAC.

I've been saying forever that Wooster should've never left the Federal League in the first place. I also believe I was shouting the loudest to apply for entry into the Suburban League...so you're preaching to the choir.Old Rider;1705884 wrote:^^^ So we get knocked for leaving the OCC because people like you (CC) think we are lowering our "competition standards"...yet Wooster continues to play in a league where they are one of the big 3. Is that preparing you?? Why are you guys still losing to small schools like Orrville? Why did Wooster leave the Federal League? Why didn't you opt for the Suburban League?
If we enter the PAC...we are still the smallest school. Not sure that is lowering our standards...
You get knocked because for years and years, Orrville bragged about "scheduling up" and how playing in a tough conference really prepared them for the postseason. Now that the talent well has run dry on the boys side, I find it fascinating that now's the time to head for greener pastures.

I hate that you lump us all into that category. I am on the side of the boys needing to become men and put the extra work in to be good. They currently aren't in my opinion and don't want them to get the false thought of switching conferences will make it all okay. They will suck in the PAC, OCC, or WCAL with the work they are putting into this. That is not a shot at coaches either. They are doing the time but you can't make Johnny Soft Ass get in the weight room and out work every other team. Mommy Soft ass would have a fit if her boy had to work hard to get better.CCRolly;1705957 wrote:I've been saying forever that Wooster should've never left the Federal League in the first place. Doesn't this attempt to switch conferences give the wrong message? Oh poor Johnny Soft Ass we want you to win so we will try and get in a different conference that is not as tough. What is that kid learning? There is way to many missed opportunities to teach kids and this is a big one. You don't like getting whipped on Friday night? What are you willing to do to change it?Old Rider;1705972 wrote:We definitely have plenty of Johnny Soft Asses walking the halls! Unfortunately, that is about all we have!

I am not typing this to infer that moving conferences would help the initial problem but it seems step one is numbers. Gonna have to increase the numbers. The reason Johnny SA is getting to play or start is simply because he is the only one. Now people can say "then don't play him" and "if you are going to loose anyway it shouldn't matter". It would seem to me that One of the largest responsibilities as coach is to put the best team possible on the field or court. I knew LOTS of kids who didn't put all the work in that many of us did but come Friday night they showed up. They were talented kids. The difference seems to be that they don't have ANY other options. I am a full time believer in off season work and getting stronger, faster. but strength will never ultimately make up for leverages a bigger person has on a smaller person... It might for a play or two but usually NOT over the course of an entire game. For situations like this to harbor fruit you are going to have to have 11 kids that have bought in!!!! And that is rare at any level. I am not so hung up on what the scheduling change will do at the high school level but I am interested in seeing what it does for the Jr. high to High School numbers? If the kids are not going to put in the work to make them better on Friday night it won't matter what conference we are in so the argument seems mute to me in that regard, but the numbers will be the interesting thing to me. EVERYONE went out for football when we were kids..... That has to change first before any of the rest of it matters. JMO

This is exactly what I have been saying. It starts with getting the numbers up. We have too many kids just simply not playing. That HAS to change first!sanitizer;1705981 wrote:...EVERYONE went out for football when we were kids..... That has to change first before any of the rest of it matters. JMO

I agree with this 100%. Maybe the numbers are so low because of the pee wee system. I have been preaching this for years now. When that system was not in place kids got to Jr. High and they wanted to hit so bad they were basically biting their own lip off to get the chance to do it. Now these kids have been hitting since what 3rd grade. It is killing the program! I know that they have stopped one of the programs maybe 3rd and 4th but 5th and 6th is still there and not helping us to get better or improve numbers. Maybe we go and talk to the coaches and staff at Coldwater and do what they do. I know this they swear by not having Pee Wee.Old Rider;1705984 wrote:This is exactly what I have been saying. EVERYTHING needs to be evaluated individually and honestly to make the best decision for the kids and the program.

Who is in on that meeting? I agree it all needs to be evaluated...just not sure who would be there to do that. AD we probably won't have one this summer. Coaching staff for sure will be there but who else should be? I am not trying to start something just curious who should be there.sanitizer;1706124 wrote:EVERYTHING needs to be evaluated individually and honestly to make the best decision for the kids and the program.

Didn't mention a meeting. The evaluation should be made by individuals who are responsible for making decisions that influence conference, youth football, coaching..... A hard honest look should be taken. But it should be a continual process. IMO,Who is in on that meeting? I agree it all needs to be evaluated...just not sure who would be there to do that. This is precisely why Orrville should not be in a hurry to leave their current conference IMO. Earlier this season, they lost to one of the worst teams in the WCAL (Smithville). Smithville dominated for most of that game before a late Orrville run made it close. At the end of the season, they comfortably beat a hot Northwestern team. If they are able to beat Black River, I would expect Orrville to give Dalton all they can handle in the sectional finals. I would probably consider Orrville a slight favorite in that game. They improve during the season at a greater rate than the other area teams do. Part of this has to do with the level of competition they are seeing on a nightly basis in their conference. I would be really hesitant to give this advantage up if I were Orrville. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems the only reason for the move is the recent failures of the football team. Moving conferences might gain Orrville a few gridiron wins, but it will really hurt their postseason preparation in other sports.

Indian Valley & Tusky Valley are officially out of the PAC. Likely beginning in the fall of 2016.
Canton Schools have yet to officially decide on Timken's future...but if they do, there could be 3 openings in the PAC by the end of March at the latest.
It's not if, but when we're heading to the PAC....in my humble opinion.
