I don't see it as embarrassing. New QB and offensive line going against a good defense. It would be embarrassing if the two teams played today and VT won.pmoney25;1683608 wrote:Let's be honest VT was terrible this year. VT is terrible. I'm not sure how someone could possibly say otherwise.

This. I think the committee and most people take this in consideration. JT playing his second game in over two years, inexperienced oline, young game. After that, OSU did what most didn't expect and did what was needed to put them where they are now. And, playing as well as anyone right now.se-alum;1683619 wrote:I don't see it as embarrassing. BTW...VT isn't very good. But they are not horrible either.

They lost to 3-8 Wake Forest 6-3. If that's not horrible, I don't know what is.
But anyway, moot point. Anyone heading south for the game? I had a friend lock in tickets weeks ago. I told him he was crazy and chances we make it were slim. Glad to be wrong!

Go look at their scores. They were in every game but one. Yes, bad loss. So if one games makes them horrible, then I guess OSU should be shit? Right?lhslep134;1683656 wrote:CBF what the hell are you talking about. Auto is 100% right

I can't agree entirely. It depends so much on what the teams around you in the rankings do.se-alum;1683605 wrote:That wasn't what I meant. I meant that OSU lost to a average/below average VT team, so losing to a good Power 5 team, won't matter a whole lot in the grand scheme of a playoff resume. Basically there is no downside now in scheduling at least one good OOC game.

I don't think they are horrible as some people think; but they are in no way, shape, or form an above average team.

Well yea, I'm just saying that if you're great at the end of the season, that loss isn't going to matter.WebFire;1683747 wrote:I can't agree entirely. It depends so much on what the teams around you in the rankings do.

Ohio State's win over 9-3 Cincinnati however, probably gave them the best OOC win over the other contenders. TCU's big win was...Minnesota, a Big ten team that OSU also beat. That's what hurt the Big 12 (and the lack of a title game). Their 2 contenders didn't play anyone.
Eventually, I'd like to see an 8-team playoff and stop there. This will almost ensure that you can win your league and get in, and just in-case you don't, who you play OOC will matter. This year, imagine if it was 8 teams? We would have a TON of 2-loss teams with arguments (had some games gone differently yesterday).

Perhaps, but lots of variables is all I mean. You might get away with a VTech loss one season, but not the next.se-alum;1683778 wrote:Well yea, I'm just saying that if you're great at the end of the season, that loss isn't going to matter.

I can only see an 8 team playoff if the NCAA starts allowing schools/conferences to pay travel expenses for the families of players. Meyer talked about it today. These families now have to pay to travel to the B1G Championship games, then 1 possibly 2 more bowl games. Another option would be to have the higher seeds play at home.Azubuike24;1683783 wrote:Ohio State's win over 9-3 Cincinnati however, probably gave them the best OOC win over the other contenders. Can you imagine the outrage if OSU was 3rd, won their final game and then got left out? I'm not saying we didn't deserve to be in, but I understand why the Big 12 fans are pissed.Automatik;1683490 wrote:Big 12 butthurt is strong right now. I fucking love it.

I'd be totally fine with the first round of games being at the home of the top 4 seeds. It's no different than today.
First 8...home/road games.
Final 4...bowl games as designed now.
The problem with the home games and going from 4 to 8 teams is...not as much money is made on that switch. The NCAA would much rather see an "event" at a neutral venue like they have the title game this year.
