But then you add in things like how contracts aren't guaranteed like in baseball (something that comes up a lot in the Andy Dalton talks because, while his contract is obscene, the team really is only forced to pay the first couple years of it) and make up rules like "oh, you guys have paid contracts to endorse this product...well, we just signed our own with their rival product, so you get in line with us or get fined", the NFL starts to look a bit bitchy.
And then you add in the "we CARE about player safety" company line while having them play two games in five days thanks to the Thursday night addition. And trying to keep alive the "move to an 18-game season" thing, which I'm sure would help, too.
And then there's the simple truth that Roger GODdell is an incompetent idiot presiding over this shit. A guy whose main impetus for decision-making seems to be to listen to public backlash and hilariously over-react to it. Fuck that clown. Anyone who mocks him deserves kudos.
They are to be made available 2-3 minutes once during the practice week and after a game. Sure, some dont like to do it and that would suck, but if you give the interview and give basic answers and nothing good they will stop wasting their time with you.
The players are employed by the NFL. They get endorsements because of that. Richard Sherman no way gets a chunky soup deal without them being the NFL sponsor. No way. The NFL isnt saying they cannot get endorsements with any other company, it is just on game day and when officially at work they have to wear the league sponsored items. After work, during the week, they can do commercials and be in an official capacity to whatever item they wish. AJ Green has a deal with Dre Beats and I have seen those commercials. To steal what they said on M and M this AM, it is like Saturday Game Day by Home Depot....Those guys cannot have like a Lowes coffee cup on the set of the TV, same with American Idol and Coke...those people have to use those Coke cups on the table and cannot use Pepsi.
It isnt like the players are left out in the dark, the franchises received over 100 pairs of those BOse headphones for free is what ESPN said today.
Sleeper doesnt allow his McDonald employees to wear burger king or wendy's stuff while they are at work.
About the player safety stuff........I can def understand that. How long has the league played Thursday night games? That is a legit concern for the players, but that Thursday Night deal gets the league 275 million dollars. Maybe they can work something out during the CBA.
True about the NFL contracts and guarentee's and that was addressed in the last CBA and teams now there is more guarenteed money, more than ever.
I just have a hard time feeling sorry for any player who is making a shit ton of money and is "forced" to wear FREE apparrel/electronics while they are at work and in official capacity of the league and Oh no, 4-6 minutes a week being available for an interview.
