The Ohio State football team still represents the greatest academic and athletic institution on the planet. We could finish dead last in the B1G, with zero wins and an average loss of 100 points a game and it'd still be the #1 school on the planet.

I'll predict a blow out every week because that is my expectation and a minor data blip out of thousands of data points is not going to derail me.

And people say they are sick of my schtick...jesus Sleeper grab a clue dude, this team will definitely be the worst since Fickell's Follys. Cinci wants soooo bad to be the first Ohio team to win in the Shoe and I think they've got a decent shot...KSU not so much.

Apparently you didn't read my post. I don't care if this team loses every game for the next 400 years, I'll still expect them to win by 6 TDs every week.

Fuck, if we lose to Cincy I will lose my damn mind. That can't happen.

My patience with Meyer is growing thin. No I don't want to send him packing, but WTF?! I don't mind losing, but just terrible play all around is unacceptable. He's getting the recruits. FUCKING COACH THEM.

I have not forgotten about his shitty playcalling in those key moments last season. Then when you have the entire team fail to show up, it just pisses me off like no other.

I can understand and accept that the offense is struggling. Replacing four OL starters and then having to go into the season with the back-up QB puts a team behind the 8-ball immediately. Regardless of how much talent you have and you recruit, you're not going to endure that without having a few bumps in the road.

I can't understand or accept the level to which they are struggling offensively. They essentially look like a meh MAC team that lucked into having the athletes to occasionally bust a big play against anyone. And for all the talk about how the defense was going to be much improved over last year's late-season debacles, I haven't seen that, either.

I missed this entire thread, so correct me if someone else pointed this out.

But why in the hell did we not run a single screen to try and get the defense to back off a bit? I don't count these jet sweep passes in to the flats as screens, I'm talking old fashioned, RB fakes blocking then leaks out, can't tell me that Samuels or Elliot wouldn't have feasted all night off the screen passes the way the VT sent 5/6 guys every single play.

That was my main complaint from the game.

Exactly Hi-Roller...why did this staff of geniuses not make adjustments that regular football fans see clearly? This is only the start of a big rock rolling downhill this season I believe folks. Urbie's new clothes have been exposed and the emperor is naked.

The whole 4th and 1 play against MSU with Braxton instead of Carlos started this. Urban needs to step it up.

The 4th down play against Michigan State and then playing a badly hurt Braxton Miller over the best backup quarterback in the nation against Clemson were 2 just terrible decisions. There was no reason Braxton should have been in on that last drive against Clemson with Kenny G ready to go

I think the defense is improved but until the LBs improve it won't matter. The D-line looked great and the DBs showed some decent things which is an improvement over last year. But any time VT dropped back to pass the LBs were less than useless. The still don't blitz and they are terrible in coverage. VT pretty much had their way with them on underneath throws. That causes the DBs to try to cover more ground and the can't focus on their job. I really think the have many of the pieces of a good defense, just need to find some good guys in the middle, hopefully starting soon with McMillan.

There is only so far down the coaching ranks they can put Fickell.
Yeah, he is an OSU guy, he stood up and took over that train wreck with tattoo-gate and they like him so they are trying to find a spot on that team where he can still be a part of it but I am thinking next year he gets the chief H20 distribution Engineer spot.

So, that means next year, there will be a lot of dehydration cramps during the early warm-weather games. Crap...

Indeed. The $4 million man is EXPECTED to produce victories.

First ever regular season competitive game he has had to actually coach in...aaaand he failed miserably. Beamer took Urbie to the woodshed on strategy, execution and adjustments. I've always been suspicious of whether he really was a great coach tactical wise at the other places he was at or he just happened to get lucky? Since last years scUM game this guy has been exposed as definitely not elite and maybe not even good.

Especially against an unranked opponent at home. However, it wasn't the loss, it was the complete embarrassment that was on the field.

Exactly. I can handle losing, just not like that. Unprepared, outcoached, and sucking in all facets.

Could the Navy game have played a role in the Buckeyes loss to VaTech??

That is fucking stupid.
So what they are saying is they should play an absolute scrub before playing a good OOC team?

This (^) is a poor post.

Fans aren't mad because the Buckeyes/Urban lost. Fans are mad/upset because of the WAY the Buckeyes/Urban/Herman lost (i.e., they were clearly out-coached and made 0 changes; just sitting back watching Va Tech blitz the hell out of them for 60 Minutes).

No one (at least not this guy) is suggesting that Urban needs to go; rather, people are just severely disappointed with the lack of quality coaching lately in big games (Va Tech, Clemson, MSU).

Ughhhhh... Navy had 9 wins last season (9-4). I wouldn't consider that an "absolute scrub".
