Not as clear cut for sure with a pitcher that must be considered.

Mine

1. Giancarlo Stanton
2. Clayton Kershaw
3. Jonathan Lucroy
4. Justin Upton (trending up)
5. Yasiel Puig (trending down)
6. Carlos Gomez
7. Andrew McCutchen (trending down)
8. Adrian Gonzalez (trending up)
9. Josh Harrison (trending up)
10. Anthony Rizzo

A lot of banged up guys Puig, Gomez, Cutch all well less than 100%...as is Rizzo. Tulo and Goldschmidt out.

Freddie Freeman, Jayson Werth, Anthony Rendon all could make big runs.

Im going with Clayton Kershaw.

If JV can win it over Miggy, Kershaw HAS to win it over Stanton, imo.

But, imo, no one else is even close.

I think if Stanton falls off the last month and Kershaw stays as is....Kershaw will take it.

But if Puig or Gonzalez finish big it will take away votes from Kershaw IMO

You wouldve thought the same thing with JV and Miggy though...

Yeah...it was a few years back and OPS wasn't quite then what it is now. Cabrera was 5th in voting but was 30 HR 105 RBI

Verlander was 24-5, led league in wins, winning %, ERA, strikeouts, innings, WHIP, OPS+ (last 2 don't mesh with my "few years ago" point)....but nonetheless

Kershaw won't lead in all of those

Cause he missed a decent chunk of time early.

He will lead in ERA, Ws, W%, CG, FIP, WHIP and K/9.

Anyway you look at it, and the numbers, Kershaw is simply having a better year than Verlander did. Hell, he may have an argument about it from LAST year.

By missing a chunk of the season it can be looked at both ways in terms of ERA, WHIP and such. Look at what David Price's numbers where up until his last start....even King Felix blew up his last start.

For Kershaw to win it he has to continue as is and Stanton not go off and have his team push into a WC (quite unlikely there)

And I still say Puig having a hot last month (he's struggling now) will affect Kershaw's votes.

Kershaw also is only going to have 27 starts and might not make 200 innings. It is like Cueto ending his season on August 20th and expecting to win the MVP. ( assuming Cueto being on a playoff team and having Kershaw's stats)

I think he'll win the CY....I think the missing time will curtail his chances for MVP....unless everything else goes right the last month

If both keep up current pace, I gotta think Kershaw wins. His WAR is leading the NL by almost a full "run" more than Stanton.

Many are still skeptical of WAR for pitching and also in general. Still hard to fathom someone who will only play in 16.7% of his team's games could be an MVP of the league.

Haha, it's funny cause I'm in 100% agreement. Why have he Cy Young if you are eligible for the MVP. However, I'm fully on board with Kershaw winning for the sole purpose that I didn't think Verlander deserved it a few years ago!!!

So basically you are saying you hope to see nude pics of Kershaw in 2017.

Noted.

Posey making a significant charge into the top 10 basically out of nowhere....he and the Giants keep hot and he could be top 5

Imagine Stanton played in a decent hitting park and was on a team with some protection? Not sure how he can't win it...

Thing about JV's MVP season is the context though. Don't forget Detroit that season had been largely disappointing and many believed Leyland and DD should be fired for how bad of a season they had until late July when they picked it up and went from 56-51 to go 39-16 the rest of the way. It was his play keeping the ship afloat until they got healthy that won him MVP, not just the raw numbers
