Some could argue that making 40k a year with no responsibility and summers off a success. I wouldn't but I can see how some would. Especially if you live in a small town where 40k is a high wage.

Being middle aged, living in a small town, and making 40k a year sounds like some sort of hell on earth.

You dumb fucks - it's not 1988 anymore...teachers with 10 - 15 yrs (which is probably what CCR has in) easily pull down 65 - 70k. Granted not a great amount but decent compensation for not a whole lotta stress.

Public school teachers have to deal with a lot of crap, more so the parents than the students.

From a financial standpoint, they are easily in the top 25% of their community. And with full pension and insurance benefits.

My father has a $100,000/year package in retirement. There aren't many private sector workers that have that.

And he's 64. I hope he lives to 94 and enjoys every moment, and lives up to his contract.

Coming from a very rural area and one of the poorest counties in Ohio, I've seen just as many people with odds stacked against the make it who haven't. You can do it if you have the drive. ANYONE can graduate high school and ANYONE can go to college. Hold yourself accountable.
But not everyone can afford college....

We live in the wealthiest country for overall economic disparity. Our poor people have iPads and Playstation 3's. If anyone is hungry, there are dozens of charities that will care for them. We donate a considerable amount, just to take care of a few dogs a month.

The average American is clueless about what real poverty is, and the average DC bureaucrat is clueless about real work.

Well then you all live in some SE OH Appalachian hell hole because teacher salaries in any Cols or Cin suburb are higher than that even. Now I'm sure the Cleveburgh area doesn't pay shit because just look at all the illiterate fools that come out of there.

I'm not sure what you mean. Anyone can go to college if they want to. My parents made enough to where I got zero federal assistance, but couldn't afford to help me out. I'm 52k in debt as a result.

Some may not find it worth it to spend that much on school and put themselves in that type of debt, especially if they come from an environment where their family members were held back by debt.

Plenty of places you can get a degree without taking on $52k in debt.

But if $52k in debt for a college degree is "holding you back", then you're problem isn't the cost of college it's that you're stupid.

This is a motivator of choice, then. It's not something that exists outside their control.

There certainly are reasons people cannot, or should not, go to college. People with learning disabilities to the degree that college is beyond their intellectual capabilities, for example, ought not go.

Those who have no interest in higher general education should seek out a trade school if at all possible. College isn't for them.

Those who are pursuing a life that doesn't value or require a college education in general shouldn't seek it out.

However, if someone chooses not to go to college solely because they don't think it can be worth it for them, they're misinformed.
