I think for most people (including alumni), the band is something to add to the gameday experience, but that's about it. Outside of that they don't give a damn about the band. Unless you are affiliated with the band, then it consumes your life.

I have found this to be true of any college or high school.

TBDBITL is hardly "any college or high school". Let's look at the University of Michigan marching band...a pretty decent major university Band. they have 2 performances with over 100,000 hits on You Tube.

The Ohio State University Marching Band has 4 performances just within the last 2 years of over 12 million hits, and several more with over a million.

Yeah....nobody cares. LOL.

Money talks. If people cared, they'd be profitable.

When you don't make your employer money, don't act like a hot shot. Waters should count this as a lesson learned about his place on the ladder.

^^^^The band generated over $30 million in ad revenue for the University last year...that does not include alumni donations to fund scholarships. Go ahead, google it.

Nah, to a few people he's some sort of band hero. To the rest, they either don't care or see him as a creepy guy who deserved the firing. Save for a few band people desperate for attention, no one will be talking about this in a month. Thank you for helping make my point. The band did a few cool HALFTIME OF FOOTBALL GAME performances and people watched them on youtube. And then didn't care about the band any more.

sorry, no. I've no connection other than I'm an OSU alum. I don't know anyone in the band, past or present, and I've no kids that have ever played in a band.

Very simply put, A very talented, innovative director was fired unjustly by a flawed, one sided investigation that was nothing more than a railroad job to create a scapegoat for the University and the solitary complaint that brought this all about. Testimony was sought from the complaintant, but none heard in Waters' behalf even though it was readily available. 99 1/2 % of the band calls him a good man that was working hard to change 'the culture', but that testiminy was not sought out and Waters' personal testimony was ignored. The 'investigation' was nothing more than a sham...and why such a severe rebuke when other options were available? Why would anybody who loves Ohio State support such a kangaroo court and it's conclusions?

IMO, Michael Drake is off to a terrible start as University president, and I hope for the sake of the university, that this is not typical of how he operates. I suspect it might be, because this is not the first time one of his firings has sparked controversy.

I don't care about the issue because the appropriate decision was reached. A university employee hosted underwear practices for college students he was in charge of overseeing. He's now gone. I'm just enjoying you and your kind's meltdowns while I still can, because this "issue's" shelf life is not going to be particularly long.

It's all about perspective. Just because they do concerts around the state doesn't mean that the average fan or student or alumni cares much about them outside of gameday. I'm assuming you've been to some of these band concerts. Guess who attends them? Parents, family, other band geeks, and friends of the band geeks.

When the band starts playing these events to 100k people, or even 15k like basketball, then we'll talk.

More perspective. Imagine if this were Urban Meyer getting fired for the same thing. Don't you think it would be a much bigger deal? All over the news and sports shows, local radio would be flooded with calls. It would be a big deal.

I'm not trying to say anything bad about the band. I have nothing against it. But to claim that most people "care" about the band is a little misleading, IMO. I will say again, outside of gameday, the average, non-band, joe doesn't care about band.

Oh christ. VOLUNTARY underwear practices. Have you read anything about the program from former band members? You don't have to be naked/in your underwear and there are no repercussions if you don't participate.

Imagine the life scarring that these kids went through though; oh no I have to stand around my friends in underwear. Oh the humanity. Grow up.

He comes in from California and three weeks on the job he goes after one of the universities most loved and cherished programs, and one of college football's most recognized traditions.

What exactly is "my kind"? If by that, you mean someone who supports his alma mater and loves its insttutions, you'd be right. ...but I suspect there is a more sinister and intolerant intent to that remark.

Explain to me how anything you said has any bearing on running a university. It's a college, not the mafia. All you did was throw around a bunch of buzzwords that translate to "our alumni are stubborn assholes"
