Sorry to hear that. I hope you feel better soon. At least you are at an age where you can still make lifestyle changes.

Do you know what led to the stroke. Do you smoke?

Sorry to hear this Enforcer.

I always get a little heavy hearted when I hear of stroke victims. In a couple of weeks it'll mark the 5th anniversary that I encountered my first stroke victim and really traumatic near-death experience of someone when I was there first-hand to experience it. Never live a day without thinking of that moment.

Hope you get recover ASAP man! That's a real jolt to the system for me to hear that with you being so young, and me having some mild-medium cholesterol issues.

One of my dad's very best friends had a stroke at 45 and he still doesn't really have too much control over one side of his upper body and he might not ever get it back so strokes hit home for me as well.

reps LOL.

Great thread! More evidence the heart is the most important muscle in the body.
I'd rather be called skinny fat and have a healthy heart than looked jacked without a neck.

Get well soon
Positive side: good news is you're young enought to make changes in your life style, and you are aware of the potential danger of poor health habits. Little word of wisdom ... The little changes make a big differences

Strokes scare me to death. I drink too much, and I sometimes feel that a stroke is inevitable.

You're such an idiot.

A) how do you know you have a "healthy heart" due to the beating it takes from that senseless act you call running and b) how do you know that that those that are "jacked without a neck" don't have healthy hearts? Answer to both? You don't.

Those who are "jacked without a neck" tend to eat a lot better and are leaner (more muscle, less "skinny fat") that you "runners" who are stuffing your gullets with carbs because ya "gotta carb up" for that long run.

As far as the OP goes, take care of yourself.

Damn, that's crazy! Hope you take the right steps to get healthier, man. Sometimes I wonder how I've made it this far without having anything happen health-wise to me.

Hope all goes well, Enforcer, and fwiw, I've been on 10mg Lipitor for a couple years now and it works wonders. I have a family history of high cholesterol, and my doctor said with my genetics no matter how much I exercise and eat right, I'll need medication to keep it down. It's just the way it is.

vball is correct in that hereditary measures dictate. Fortunately I haven't been on medication yet, but in 10-20 years most definitely with hereditary background. Being able to run half-marathon or being reasonably skinny doesn't trump the genes aspect.

I trust what my resting heart rate and blood pressure tells me.

e/ - oh yea. My heart doesn't take a beating while running because I'm really efficient.
