2. They were not one group, one nation but a group of nations sometimes at war with each other. We do not think of 17th and 18th century Europeans as one group but as various nations French, English, Spanish, Dutch.
3. Golly given the atrocities committed by 19th and 20th century Europeans against fellow Europeans or Euro Americans against Native Americans it seem hypocritical to hold Africans to any kind of higher standard of conduct.
