I can't tell what's worse...the fact that you said Derulo is better than MJ, or the fact that you admit to listening to Jason Derulo.

I'm not really a fan of Michael Jackson, but if I were to try devalue others' opinions of him I'd use someone other than a B-rate version of Usher
Yes. He also makes quality music.

I didn't just Derulo was better; he's 1000x better. If Jackson were born in this era, he would be singing karaoke at some shitty bar on the East side of DC for the rest of his life. Can we all just grow up and admit his music is average at best? His shit reminds me of some boring Great Depression movie that your grandparents talk about all the time as being so great, and then you finally watch it and realize its black and white and there are no words.

lol, does this also include Elvis and The Beatles? I'm sure you can make the case that these singers/bands weren't technically as talented as others, but they were trailblazers, setting the tone for music moving forward. How many singers/bands profess they owe who and what they are to these performers? I'd venture to say quite a few.

Call them trailblazers but let's stop pretending their music is 'good'. I'm sure when color TV's first came out people were saying they were trailblazers but no one would dare say those TVs are 'good' compared to the TVs today. The only difference with people is the emotion involved which we know from previous discussion is entirely irrational and has no basis in reality.

The reality is people that like Jackson's music only like it because they were indoctrinated at young age that these musicians were somehow special. This occurs in other facets of life as well and is completely normal. However, realistically, if you took children from a remote village in Africa and had them listen to Jackson's music and Derulo's music, $100 says almost none of them would prefer old boring music.

Do you ever stop and read what you post? You do realize whatever we have today is a direct result of what we had yesterday (metaphorically speaking), so it stands to reason music/technology, etc. will be better, especially in the eyes of our youth. This is all they know, and until they get older, they'll never fully appreciate what came before them....but you already knew that.

Do you appreciate the mud huts that people used to live in or do accept that current modern housing technology is far superior and preferable? Do you ever read what you write?

I have no issues with questioning the classic status bygone works but you have to be able to at least quantify why it's overrated. Throwing out a run-of-the-mill R&B artist and stating he is better than a beloved pop icon because he dances better or makes better music isn't convincing at all and does nothing to make even an impartial Jackson listener see it differently. Both are songwriters but at the very least I recognize MJ's Bad generated 5 consecutive #1 singles and that Derulo has had five top 5 singles to date. Citing indoctrinated young minds is a pretty flimsy approach to devaluing something you simply do not like.

It's a Sleeper discussion. There are no limits to how off-track those can get.

MJ grew up in a time where most people listened to music on radios and therefore any song that can gain traction is going to continue to gain traction. These days, there are thousands of artists all producing high quality music with multiple distributions channels that dwarf MJ at his best. This is simply a broken comparison at best. I stand by my statement that Jackson's music would go nowhere if he was born 30 years later.

Michael Jackson never made a single recording worthy of a Tiernan road trip replay. Dude was the most overrated artist in music history.

I challenge people to listen to Thriller and tell me that's a good song. It's terrible. I can't think of one song that I would actually enjoy listening to from MJ.

Lol Jason Derulo. I think I've thrashed sleeper in this argument before. Derulo is pretty much a weak copy of MJ and you wont remember him in 10 years.

Yeah, we wouldn't be hearing about MJ either if he didn't rape a bunch of kids. Tell me more about how Thriller is a good song; its trash at best.

Lol he was an icon way before the rape allegations. You've never heard of the Jackson 5? I can see you now picking up chicks in your Cavalier blasting Jason Derulo! This is funny as hell.

Trust me he is. I remember when he said that Derulo was a better dancer than MJ when he pretty much copies all of his moves. I think sleeper has a man crush.

Jason Derulo doesn't even believe he makes better music than MJ.

However, the #1s, the 100 million records sold, the records...none of that compares to "Talk dirty to me"...yea...right.

edit...I'm not saying MJ is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'm only saying he's at least better than Derulo. I mean good Lord, I challenge you to play the best of MJ against the best of Derulo (his two singles...) and tell me that you won't like MJ's better. Hell, at least pick Justin Timberlake or Usher as a viable opponent. Timberlake's 20/20 Experience is a fantastic pop album.
