Do you change your own oil or have it changed by a dealership or a quicklube?

If you change your own oil what's your go to oil syn or dino and what brand?

Fab1b doesn't. I do. Though my next two oil changes are free so I am taking it to the dealership for that.

I do if I have time, if not, I take it to my mechanic and have them do it. I refuse to go to any of the oil changing places. Incompetent and lazy employees. You never know what they are going to do. I've seen everything from not draining the oil completely to not tightening your drain plug to not even changing the oil filter.

I used to do it myself until my buddy dropped oil changes to 10 bones at his garage.

It's a 50/50 I use Valvoline products High mileage and top quality stuff ... I use the Valvoline Quick Lub service also. I've been going there for years they know better not to screw up...

I change my own oil in my car. 5W-30 from Quakerstate. 4.5 quarts, plus Fram oil filter. Occasionally I'll spring for an air filter.

Similar to sportchampps, when my wife bought her Odyssey, they gave her a $19.99 for life card. To take advantage of it, she'll have a workmate pick her up from the dealership after she's dropped off the van, then return after work to pick it up. IMO, you can't beat it. I pay around $25 for mine, plus the time.

Not to hijack, but I had my oil changed yesterday and they did all the normal checks and said that my transmission fluid was a brownish color, darker than it should be. Of course they(JiffyLube) wanted over $100 for it, so I passed. Should I be "worried" about it?

Yeah, I mean I kind of took it with a grain salt. But I also am very car problems stupid so I wasn't sure.

The car is running fine, no issues.

At our dealership if you buy a car your first oil change is free, we then have a buy 4 get 1 free program. Averages out to around $17 per oil change. People seem to like the program, plus w/ our pick up and delivery service people eat that up.

no. also, never have anyone do anything on your transmission unless they specialize in transmissions. Just my opinion from personal experience.

Used to have mine done at home when I had a car. Now that I have an SUV that takes like 7 fucking quarts of oil every time, I go to a shop. The first time my boyfriend changed the oil at home, the drain pan almost overflowed. We just narrowly avoided a huge mess. (Yes, I know we could just buy a bigger pan, but I'd rather just take Gail the Snail somewhere and have it done.)

I've heard a bunch of mechanics say that if you haven't changed it by that point, don't, as it may cause leaks.

I don't trust car mechanics because they are the scum of the Earth and have a technical certificate that is meaningless in the world of Google these days. I change my own.

I do everything under the sun for my car. It's not hard if you aren't a lazy POS(or a woman because women couldn't tell a steering wheel from a pin wheel). On the rare chance I can't fix something myself, then I will take it to a car mechanic.

Seriously, if you are having car problems, type the problem into Google. 9/10 it'll be something like "Oh just replace such and such" that you can get for $5 at a auto-parts store and fix it yourself. Google pretty much eliminates the need for mechanics of any sort; at this point you are basically just paying money because you are lazy and/or want to transfer the risk of your maintenance to someone else(expensive!).

I used to but there is a shop 50 yards away that does them for us for $20 and its hard to beat that with the cost, time and effort.
Plus they top off the other fluids as well.
