Hear is what I've heard:

Joe Drehers brother John and Elmer Zollinger (Soph) are battling for the QB spot. They both look very shaky. Norwayne is moving to a 3 wide set instead of 4 and and going with a 2 back system. One would have to believe that the offense is going to run through Jr RB Jeremy Miller who is a stud. The problem as we all know is, if you can't throw the ball it's much more difficult to run it. I think the young man that transferred from Rittman last year will be playing in the fullback spot. The Cats return most of the O-line and should be strong up front. Hopefully one of the young QB's starts to come on and the running game will carry them for a while. The Cats return 2 small receivers on the inside Reed and Tomasetti(?). I think they'll turn to some young fellas in Weinman and probably young Harris to fill an outside spot. They are both very tall but Harris is super skinny. He can fly though. It's going to be interesting to watch. Hopefully they develop

I've heard that the defense is actually looking pretty good. If you're a Bobcat fan you'll remember that our D was not good last year even though we graduated 2 players that are playing D1 football on the defensive side of the ball.....you figure it out?!

I hope the Cats can get 5 wins this year

well after a week of two a days it seem that in smithville, there will be a sophomore at starting QB, from what i have watched and i attend practice everyday to watch my two sons both on varcity, this kid looks good. hes young yes but looks to have all the skills necessary to lead smithville to at least a contentder in the league. smithviille this year looks bigger, faster, and to be honest looks like a much better team then last year,,,, mind you it wont take much to be better then a 1 and 9 record. the line should be there strength. and after watching there first day of hitting yesterday its much improved from last year..... now im not saying there going to win the wcal, but i do see them much better then last year.... of course injury and other things can always become a factor in how the season goes..... if smithville can pass at least 30 to 40% of the time! it should be a tough team to defend. thats how i see in it smithville... hows it looking else where guys,,,, come on lets get this going.... ITS FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!!!!!

Not according to MaxPreps, although who knows how accurate it is?

That's funny I've been told by 3 people that live in Smithville that they look terrible. 2 of those guys have kids on the team. It's going to be interesting to see what they put on the field

Stopped by Norwayne today and took in about 10 minutes of practice. Their lineman were doing drills closest to the parking lot. They have some horses up front. I would think with that kind of size, they should be able to push people around and move the ball well on the ground.

Thats too bad. I think he could have been a good one in the backfield.

The Chipps seem to be picking up where they left off last year, with a positive attitude and great coaching, they seem fired up!!!!!
I need a fast forward right up til the first kickoff, good luck to my son Jacob Gamble #59 and the rest of the Chipps, hope all you parents out there enjoy a safe and fun season.

New to the site and loving the banter! I was at the Smithville scrimmage against Crestview and big green looked good. Now I have not been to a game in a few years because of my work schedule, but I have to say it might be the the best looking team I have seen since my graduating class (and other than maybe the class behind me). They seem to hit as a team, didn't avoid contact, and our DBs were able to cover some receivers (haven't seen that in a while). Now I know its only a scrimmage, but you could of fooled me and the boys sure didn't play soft like it wasn't a full game! Looking forward to getting to some games this year, because for the first time in about 6 years I don't have to work Friday nights!! Does anyone know when the high school preview will be out? I think the Daily Record does one every year. Take care everyone, heres to a great season for all the WCAL teams!!!!!

i was at the scrimmage as well SmithieFan03 and have attended many as i have 2 that play, and i am in agreement with u they look great, that best i have seen since they made the playoffs three years ago.... first and for most they hit there face off.... crestview wanted no part of them after about 15 plays... the O-line and D-line look very good....if they can find a qb that can pass the ball well they will open a lot of people eyes this year....

I agree scotmich. Most of the passes thrown yesterday looked good though. I think they will open some eyes this year. I tell you what that FB from Crestveiw was a BIG BOY and they didn't have any problems with him! Plus that first fumble he had that kid just straight up punched that ball out of there, the D looked REALLLLLLLLY good. Looking forword to the Tuslaw game (going to be a tough one though).

Nice analysis! Sounds as if things are looking good! Hope Tyler is ok. Sounds serious. That could certainly create a void! Doesn't sound like he will be cleared.
