Niang returning to Iowa State. Apparently he has some unfinished business. Ya think, Niang? Thanks for ruining my fucking bracket two hours into the tournament.

Wasn't he the one that got hurt 2 years ago as well when they looked like they could have been a Final Four team but lost to UConn?

Was leaving really on the table for Niang? I doubt he'd get drafted.

And lost by 21. UConn is just too good.

Very interesting to read the speculation about Louisville next year. Pitino says, "we don't want to rebuild, we want to reload. It's really important to stay at this level. We don't want to slip and we don't want to make any excuse about losing a lot of our points.

They are losing Wayne Blackshear (graduation), Chris Jones (dismissal), Terry Rozier (Draft), Montrezl Harrell (Draft), Anton Gill (transferring), Akoy Agau (transferring) and rumors of two others possibly leaving, Shaqquan Aaron and Chinanu Onauku.

However, there are also discussions of him actively looking for graduate transfers. Names that have come up already are Yogi Ferrell (Indiana), Trey Lewis (Cleveland State) and Damion Lee (Drexel). I wouldn't put it past Pitino to put together a roster of proven players, because right now there's nothing left...

Your dislike for Pitino is a bit mind boggling when you consider what he did with, to UK in the 90's. I know he is now at your rival school. But still, the guy took a program that was close to getting the death penality and turned them around rather quickly.
And this year, he may have done one of this better coaching jobs considering all that went on with the players, lost players.

There wasn't any bashing or dislike in my above post. I just find it interesting that he's literally out recruiting players who are still students at other schools. It's legal, thanks to the graduate transfer rule, but it's also impossible to not see some of the hypocrisy in many of his comments over the years.

Webber had some good comments this morning regarding the UK team. Gave props to Laettner and the old duke teams, and a few old school NCAA players. In a nutshell, he doesnt think this UK team is the greatest, and that some other teams with great talent, who had played in college for a few years, would beat them.

I would agree with Weber that this UK team is not the greatest. If they win it all, they have to be mentioned with the greats, no question. But I can probably name 5 or so teams I think were better even going back to the UNLV, Dukes and UK teams in 90's and UK team with Wall n Cousins. This UK team is loaded and deep. But they don't have that standout stud or two IMO. Yes, the argument could be made that one or more of the players on this team could be "that" player on another less talented team. But I don't see it. Each of these UK players has some visible weaknesses IMO. But those weaknesses are covered up with the number of talent and depth this team has. I don't think there has EVER been a deeper team in terms of overall talent. And that is what seperates this team this year from everyone else. Add in the obvious gap of real quality teams this year, and the result is what we see, an undefeated team. But I believe they will be tested by Wisconsin and Duke (if Duke wins).

Ha ha, maybe not, maybe a little. Can read between the lines. But you have been on Pitino on many other posts as well as UL.

Not anything more than what's typical for your main rival.

As for Chris Webber, I actually don't dislike him, and he has a point. However, to throw the UK team with Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe, Patterson, etc...out there, is flawed. That team could have 2-3 future HOF'ers, but it wasn't a great, great college team. Good, not great. Their achievements, win margin, statistical metrics back that up. It wasn't better than the 2012 UK team.

Throwing out the 90 and 91 UNLV teams, 92 Duke, 96 Kentucky, 01 Duke, all of those teams were loaded with talent. That was also a different era in college basketball. The Carmelo Anthony-led title really redefined the role of a Freshman on teams. I mean, look at the 96 UK and 01 Duke teams specifically, and look at the minutes played by some of those guys. Freshman Ron Mercer and Nazr Mohammed played varying roles, with Mercer being the 4th option and Nazr playing limited back up minutes. The Duke team had, but weren't reliant upon a Sophomore Carlos Boozer and Freshman Chris Duhon. Rarely do you see that type of depth anymore.

Only flawed because they didn't win the title. But minus that, in terms of overall success and talent, I think they were as good or better than this UK team. Arguement could be used for or against the depth of college basketball during that year compared to this year. Lets be honest, minus a few teams this year, siginificant drop in quality overall in college basketball. Thus the "perfect storm" hit for UK this year in that area, as well as playing in a bad conference.

Exactly. That's my point. The depth of teams aren't the same anymore. With that said, there ARE a few college teams in recent memory with as much or more relative talent than any of those great teams. What we're arguing is how STRONG are their season accomplishments. I doubt many teams would go through a mid-90's SEC unscathed. Even the 1996 UK team lost in the SEC Tournament.

I mean just look at the last 10 national champs. 2005 UNC, 2006/07 Florida, 2008 Kansas, 2009 North Carolina, 2012 Kentucky, and you can even throw in 2010 Duke and 2013 Louisville. All of these teams had at least 3 NBA players, many of them 4 or more. Maybe not NBA hall-of-famers or even all stars, but NBA caliber players.

Looking back though, people will see that 09-10 UK team and they will be the poster children for the allure of a single elimination tournament. A single bad shooting night and it's over...

Oubre's dad stated in this article (http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-basketball/story/2013-10-09/kelly-oubres-dad-says-he-doesnt-like-john-caliparis-use-of-force) that Calipari forces guys out when they can't cut it. His quotes...

" I don't care too much for it (one-and-done) because if you look at it over the last couple drafts, the success of the guys one-and-done is few and far between. Every once in a while you find guys who can make it through. I'm more concerned about his education after maybe a two-year stint or three-year stint. How close is he to that degree and having a greater business mind going into the next level"

9.3 ppg and a first weekend exit at Kansas and he's going pro after a year. The irony is hilarious...

Rumors have it that Shaka Smart will be headed to Austin here soon to take over at Texas.

It's a step up, obviously, but I disagree with the move.
