He was my dad's favorite player. We had a framed SI cover of Hank Aaron in the basement. Wish I could've seen him play.

PED's were around before, during, and after Aaron's time.

True, but way too young to remember any of that.

I consider him the HR king.

You and anyone else who does is naive (and I would argue irrational) for allowing emotion to supercede logic.

Barry Bonds hit 762 home runs and used PEDs
Hank Aaron hit 755 home runs and used PEDs (admitted to amphetamines and other sources, much like the modern day sources of PED accusations, say steroids potentially used)

seemed pretty clear cut to me

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8769398/a-writer-gives-hall-fame-vote (mentioning Hank's amphetamine use)

Hank said so himself. He took a substance that would get him suspended if caught today.

Damn cool scene in Atlanta right now...

715 fans in the outfield, holding signs with the number and date of all 715 HRs.

He's a famous person who said something stupid. Just like many other famous people. Just like virtually everyone on this board.

It's a talk about the anniversary of his sports-related feat; not his personal stupid opinions on shit that has no relevance to anything concerning anything he's actually known for.

Save it for the politics forum so all the site idiots can comment to their heart's content.

It was indeed a talk/thread about, and in Atlanta, a celebration about, Aaron's feat of surpassing the Bambino's home run record.

Aaron should have kept some of his comments to himself, and unfortunately tarnished his day in the sun.

It isn't idiotic to to comment about what he did at his 40th anniversary. It was idiotic for him to bring up the subject in the first place!

Well, in that case, let's focus on the comments section of the article linked and how virtually every post there included at least one racist slur to point out that other side of the idiot coin, as well.

Such as: All it takes is one idiotic comment by a person of fame to bring out the ugly, just-as-bad-if-not-worse sides of a lot of regular people.

Probably was ill advised for him to say that.

In a way I give those old fogies a pass when shit like this was said. It was such a different time back in the day and their experiences were much, much different than ours.

That's something I'd agree with. He dealt with a lot of shit, including death threats, based on his race; which causes him to be perhaps over-sensitive to things; which led to him blurting out something stupid.
