Help: what's the most amount of hits a team can record in a baseball game without scoring a run? Assume 9 innings, no extras.

I'd go with 36.

Single
Single
Single (obviously, no runners advance more than one base on any of these)
Double play (with one out at home)
Single (where no one goes home to re-load the bases, so I'd guess an infield hit)
Out

Repeat 8 more times.

Horribly unlikely under any situation that this could happen once, but I guess it's somehow possible.

Or for a more possible version.

Single, Double Play, Single, Single, Single, Out.

Without this being a trick question I am going with 45.

Could be done a number of different ways.

1.
Hit.
Hit.
Hit.
Pickoff.
Pickoff.
Hit
Hit.
OUT.

2:
Hit, caught stealing or pickoff.
HIt, caught stealing or pickoff.
Hit
HIt.
Hit.
OUT.

3:
Hit thrown out trying to stretch to a double/triple/inside the park.
Hit thrown out trying to stretch it.
Hit.
Hit.
Hit.
OUT.

and many other variations of it.

6*9 is 54!

I am wondering if there isnt some other way, and there may be.

Same as before
Hit, pickoff, HIT, pickoff, HIT, hit hit and then with the bases loaded the batted ball hits the runner. I know in those instances the batter is credited with a hit and then it is dead ball, with the runner out and if the runner had not crossed the plate there is no run.

So possibly 6 for a total of 54?

That is true, about the hit with the runner being out. So yeah, I guess 54??

And as for me putting 6...I meant 5 lol

Or even a hit where a runner passes another runner before the run is scored. Or guy reaches first and is tagged going to 2nd before a runner scores...

Im thinking 6 an inning.

Yeah, tht would be ruled a hit.
I am not 100% though if he is credited with a hit if it is the 3rd out in the inning, but it very well could be.

True, a few diff scenarios could probably get to 6 hits in an inning without a run

MLB Tonight is the best sports show on TV. Their analysts are by far the best, and the show itself is just the best. Its great.

I HATE when they go to quick pitch at midnight though lol. It should be MLB tonight till 1am every night.

Watching Dodgers/Dbacks on MLB network and Vin Scully is just amazing doing the game by himself. He just rattled off a sequence from a game in 1976 and listed everyone involved.

Puig threw a laser from near the RF corner warning track and tried to get Tony Campana tagging from 2nd to 3rd.....just silly. Greinke pitching, good watch/listen

Vin Scully is amazing at what he does, but, it bores me. I know I am in the minority, but the single voiced broadcast just doesnt do it for me. Probably has to do with being in TV for the last 10 years and growing up with the "new style" of how things are done.

I can see the "boring".....but no clue how the hell he does it. What is he about 86? So smooth and sharp.
