Mike Trout: 705 at bats
Clayton Kershaw: 749 batters faced
Sure seems like Clayton had as many batter/pitcher interactions as an everyday player.
How many of those 705 plate appearances were against position players? Kershaw likely had 50 battles against pitchers batting. Kershaw also doesn't control the defense behind him and other than his plays you have to take into account Trout's defense and base running.
Also....the plate appearance/batters faced are typically close but he also pitching what 28 games? That's 134 games the Dodgers played where he did nothing whatsoever. If LeBron played 16 games and the Cavs were 16-0 in those games and he went 40/20/20 average in those 16.....would he have a prayer in the MVP voting? Peyton played in 4 games, went 4-0 with 500 yards and 6 TD and no picks avg...MVP?
Kershaw played a huge role in 20 wins.
All this said....I would've given it to Kershaw in the NL as well. Had Stanton played the last month and stayed on track mostly...would've given it to him.
