I agree. That said, it also takes time and process to root that out. I'm confident that appropriate changes have been made.I agree with Con_Alma, it isn't about the religion, but rather how power can corrupt.

Yes, 20 years and billions of dollars worth of hush money tend to make "problems" go away.HitsRus;1589712 wrote:I agree. That said, it also takes time and process to root that out. I'm confident that appropriate changes have been made.

It's a joke that it's 2014 and people still think there's a religious god. Time to grow up.

Thanks so much for adding to this thread by telling us again about your atheism and your disregard for believers. The first 477 times you did this, it didn't sink in. But now it does.sleeper;1589824 wrote:It's a joke that it's 2014 and people still think there's a religious god. Time to grow up.

I'll say it as long as there is 1 single believer on this planet. I have met religious believers who are great and believers who are jerks - and everything in between. That is called the human condition. It applies to atheists as well.sleeper;1589914 wrote:I'll say it as long as there is 1 single believer on this planet. They are the worst.

Atheism is a religion. Perhaps some did not know that.

Being religious has nothing to do with being great or being a jerk. It has everything to do with intellectual integrity. Believers by default have zero intellectual integrity and therefore are irrelevant automatically.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1589923 wrote:I have met religious believers who are great and believers who are jerks - and everything in between. A lenten prayer for today:
Dear Lord, we are now in the holy season of Lent. We begin to realize anew that these are the days of salvation, these are the acceptable days. We know that we are all sinners. We know that in many things we have all offended Your infinite majesty. We know that sin destroys Your life in us as a drought withers the leaves and chokes the life from the land, leaving an arid, dusty desert. Help us now, Lord, in our feeble attempts to make up for past sin. Bless our efforts with the rich blessing of Your grace. Make us realize ever more our need of penance and of mortification. Help us to see, in our ordinary difficulties and duties, in the trials and temptations of every day, the best opportunity of making up for past infidelities. Every day we are so often reminded in field and wood, in sky and stream, of Your own boundless generosity to us. Help us to realize that You are never outdone in generosity, and that the least thing we do for You will be rewarded, full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and flowing over. Then we shall see, in our own souls, how the desert can blossom, and the dry and wasted land can bring forth the rich, useful fruit that was expected of it from the beginning. Amen.

If someone truly believes in God, how is that not having intellectual integrity - being true to themselves and holding themselves to an honest standard? If they believe something to be true, then that is what they are doing.sleeper;1589935 wrote:Being religious has nothing to do with being great or being a jerk. "Atheists often claim that their belief is not a religion. This allows them to propagate their beliefs in settings where other religions are banned, but this should not be so.
Contemporary Western Atheism unquestionably has six of the seven dimensions of religion set forth by Smart, and the remaining dimension, ritual, has also started to develop. Other than the denial of the divine, there is little difference between Atheism and other worldviews typically labelled as religions.
The dichotomy that Atheists try to create between science and religion is false. The conflict is between interpretations of science coming from different religious worldviews.
Atheism shouldn’t be taught or enforced in settings where other religions are banned and shouldn’t be favoured by laws which imply a religiously neutral government."

There are a number of atheist religions actually. Pick one, I guess.

Sleeper is kind of an 'evangelical' atheists?...kind of like Jehovah Witnesses...going door to door (blog to blog...thread to thread) trying to convert you 'as long as there is a single believer on the planet". Only not so benign.
If you don't convert....

I'm not trying to convert anyone. I just want people who want to be with God to do the right thing and go be with him. Leave the planet to the intelligent people who understand how evidence, logic, and reason work. The world will be a better place and you can still go to heaven.HitsRus;1590064 wrote:Sleeper is kind of an 'evangelical' atheists?...kind of like Jehovah Witnesses...going door to door (blog to blog...thread to thread) trying to convert you 'as long as there is a single believer on the planet". Not sure why believers think they have to be here and ruin it for the rest of us; end your life and go be with your god.

Intercessions:
Thanks be to Christ the Lord, who brought us life by his death on the cross.
With our whole heart let us ask him:
By your death raise us to life<o
></o>
Teacher and savior, you have shown us your fidelity and made us
a new creation by your passion,
-keep us from falling again into sin
Help us to deny ourselves today,
-and not deny those in need
May we receive this day of penance as your gift,
-and give it back to you through works of mercy
Master our rebellious hearts,
-and teach us generosity<o

Guys, haven't you learned that he's just trolling to get these kinds of reactions? He's a lonely guy who gets his kicks on internet message boards, and the more you pay attention to him, the more he'll troll. Ignore him, and he'll go away.HitsRus;1590064 wrote:Sleeper is kind of an 'evangelical' atheists?...kind of like Jehovah Witnesses...going door to door (blog to blog...thread to thread) trying to convert you 'as long as there is a single believer on the planet". In honor of the season, I think I'll sacrifice a fatted cow to almighty Zeus in order that he might improve the local weather.

I'm giving up potatoes, bread, and pasta. Figured that would eliminate quite a few carbs in my lifestyle, and allow me to drink more booze.
Bonus:
Dumbest thing I've ever heard of someone giving up on Lent, was a female friend in college. She gave up BUYING beer. Not drinking, but BUYING. She said it was ok to drink other people's beer, but she wasn't going to waste her own money on it. DERP.
I decided to participate this year. For lent I will be giving up lent.
