TMZ should just go somewhere and die.
TMZ breaks more stories than anyone out there. And no, I dont mean just the fluff bullshit they put out daily.

People tend to confuse what TMZ reports on (usually gossip garbage), with how well they report on it (they are very good).

Yep. I would put them and Deadspin up against any outlet reporting right now. When the dedicate their best people to a real story, they are the best and seem to have the best sources.

An Asia-based pilot of a Boeing 777-200, who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to reporters, said an ascent above the plane's service limit of 43,100 feet, along with a depressurized cabin, could have rendered the passengers and crew unconscious, and could be a deliberate maneuver by a pilot or hijacker.

The problem with the "stolen plane" scenario is you'd need a private airport (or bribe/intimidate a whole lot of people) with a big enough runway to land (and, at some point, takeoff) a 777.

And that one article said the altitude data is from the engines, not radar, and is not reliable. If a hijacker just wanted to bring the plane down, there's really no need to ascend like that to "render everyone unconscious".

Sounds like a weak case. Very sad that this might give families false hope.

To call it a "confirmed hijacking" sounds like more than a stretch.

Instead of just posting your opinion (which no one really cares about), how about posting something newsworthy related to the issue?

It'd be far more compelling than just shitting on every update that comes along

The "updates" are shit speculation, but that would assume the reader has a brain. This is looking increasingly like a govt covering its ass.

You can read the links posted. To say the "confirmed hijacking" is a stretch ("confirmed" would indicate proof, of which there is none) is readily obvious from the facts (or lack thereof) of the very article linked. The plane may have very well been hijacked, but the article linked would suggest it was landed somewhere and, thus, the passengers are still alive. There is 0 evidence or basis for that.

It's not a confirmed hijacking. It's still speculation.

LINK LINK LINK??!?!?!!?!?!?

EVERYTHING in this thread is speculation. Nobody knows what happened to that plane. Well, somebody might but nobody reporting has any proof of it. Although more than a few of the theories defy credulity.

Random Malaysian official states it's "conclusive" that the bird was hijacked.

http://washington.cbslocal.com/2014/03/15/malaysian-official-it-is-conclusive-someone-hijacked-missing-jet/

IMO, the only thing we know for sure at this point is that the Malaysians have no clue what the fuck they're doing.

It's a frat party atmosphere in most newsrooms right now. They are eating this shit up. Ratings gold.

Honestly, I can't get enough of it, and aside from basketball, it's the only thing I've watched the past several days. I have about nine or 10 shows dedicated to this airplane DVR'd since last night and watching them now. This is ratings gold. That's sad, in a way, but it's the culture we have created. The mystery of it all is incredible.

Yeah it's pretty incredible how crazy a story this is. I mean, a missing person, okay happens all the time. A missing family, weird but happens. Some important documents missing? Okay. But a missing plane!?

In this day and age of constant contact, constant records, millions of eyes looking up, cameras, videos, all this social media, google maps, different navigation services, and no one can find a fucking airplane!?

Something wild must have happened. That plane didn't just explode in midair.

Exactly. Prior to Malaysian Air Flight 370, the disappearance of Amelia Earhart's twin-engine in the 1930s was the most famous unsolved mystery in the history of aviation. This is a Boeing 777 jumbo jet with 227 passengers and crew on board and nobody has seen it for eight days.

As a big fan of mysteries, I hope they never find it. I know that's horrible lol, but this mystery is just too good. I can't remember being this engrossed in a story since at least as far back as 9/11.

I do think we'll end up finding the plane on land, though. That's just my own speculation, but as S&L said, it's highly unlikely from my perspective as somebody who knows nothing about airplanes that it could have just exploded mid-air. This is probably a hijacking of some sort related in some way to terrorism or some other nefarious activity. If that does turn out the case, then it was the greatest crime ever committed. The perfect heist. And you can expect a Captain Phillips-like movie to made about it in the future. This story really is better than fiction.
