They only keep two qb's typically, Pryor played very well from what I saw in preseason.

Is this the end for him in the NFL. I would have though he would have at least attempted another position by now.
Wouldn't be surprised for a team to pick Pryor up....not sure about Sam. Pryor could help a team that could use his athleticism. Sam was just a sideshow and never played against a first team offense. A bit surprised the Rams cut him outright, and not place him on the taxi squad.

But...but...but Sams dominated Johnny Fuckup and he's the greatest player in the NFL isn't he?

Ryan Mallet is on his way to the Texans for a conditional 6th round pick, Ian Rapport is reporting. Instantly the starter?

He'll have to learn a new playbook. But yes, I think he'll be there starter moving forward.

I always liked Mallett, seemed like the prototypical NFL QB with a huge arm.

Category Chiefs QBs '12 Smith '13
W-L 2-14 11-4
TD-Int 8-20 23-7
Pass YPG 169.6 220.9
Total QBR 31.5 49.4
He got them out of the death spiral that QB instability causes. He's not a stud, but you can win with him as the niners and chiefs have shown. That contract really isn't that bad when you consider what the market rate for even competent QB play is at this point.

4 years $68 million. Makes the Bengals deal with Dalton look even better.

To compare...

Alex Smith (8 seasons, 4 full, 3 others as a "starter"): 95 games, 59.5%, 17593 yds, 104 TD, 70 INT, QBR 81.0
Average season prorated at 16 games/year 2963 yds, 17.5 TD, 11.8 INT

Andy Dalton (3 seasons, 3 as a starter): 48 games, 60.9%, 11360 yds, 80 TD, 49 INT, QBR 85.7
Average season at 3787 yds, 26.67 TD, 16.33 INT.

If the Bengals keep Dalton 2 more years, the most he can earn is 21M guaranteed.
The Chiefs will be paying Smith a guaranteed 45M.

I fail to see how this deal can be defended and the Dalton deal ridiculed.
