Also, Matt Ryan career rating of 90.1 and Matt Stafford career rating of 83.1. I'm not supporting a big extension for Dalton, but if I'm representing him or in his camp, I can see the justification. All of those other guys I named, Stafford, Ryan and Cutler all got paid BIG.

IMO, half of the QB's fit the description of Dalton, Romo, Cutler, Stafford, Ryan, etc...guys proven to make an above-average number of mistakes or be unclutch.Automatik;1638865 wrote:Dalton is the worst kind of QB to have on your team.
Stat machine, build you up, then let's you the fuck down. Rinse, repeat.
He's the new Tony Romo.
The question is, if you identify the guy you drafted and are relying on IS that, do you continue to hope he will grow out of it and take it up a notch, or do you not settle for "good" and cut your losses, even if that means risking a few awful seasons? It's deeper than just a team or coach. It's an organizational decision. My point was, I don't think the Bengals have the foundation or stability to risk the little momentum they have built. Other franchises do.

I agree with all of that. It depends on if they really think McCarron can be the guy, and IMO I don't think so.
Not the best situation to be in.

Dalton is absolutely a top 10 QB in the league.

Hard to think a guy drafted outside of the top 3 rounds is ever THE guy. Very, very few exceptions to that.
Interestingly enough, I think there are a few guys out there who people would rank higher than those guys I mentioned because they have won. Flacco, Kaepernick, Wilson, etc. However, when push comes to shove, are they clearly better than Cutler, Stafford, Dalton, Romo, etc...or were they in the right place at the right time? There's an aspect of both.
It's the same that we got from Ben Roethlisberger, but he's shown more than capable of putting up the big stats when needed. Ironically, the big stats for him haven't necessarily accompanied wins.

How the fuck is Ryan Tannehill #5? That's enough to discredit the entire list, lol.
But seriously, I hope they don't sign Dalton to a long term deal. Azu hit the nail on the head though, it's not easy to find an upgrade to Dalton even though he is around the 15th or 16th best QB in real rankings so it makes it a tough decision. He's definitely good enough to be an NFL starter no question, but never a guy I see making an AFC Championship game or Super Bowl. He wants big money because he put up great stats last year and he does have good moments, but the bad moments are just huge and drive me and a lot of Bengals fans nuts. I say they make him play for it this year without an extension and see what happens. I'm sick of terrible interceptions and poor decisions against good teams even though he was a fantasy football stud.

You cannot discredit PFF. You can disagree with them, but you cannot discredit them as worthless. Their process based grading ignores the fact that the rest of the Dolphins were inept.Terry_Tate;1638913 wrote:How the fuck is Ryan Tannehill #5? That's enough to discredit the entire list, lol.

I will discredit it. Tannehill as a top 5 QB just think about that.lhslep134;1638917 wrote:You cannot discredit PFF. You can disagree with them, but you cannot discredit them as worthless. Their process based grading ignores the fact that the rest of the Dolphins were inept.

Be completely honest: how many times did you watch Tannehill last year? Maybe once? These guys are paid to watch, detail, and grade every aspect of every single play he made all year.SportsAndLady;1638926 wrote:I will discredit it. Tannehill as a top 5 QB just think about that.
You do realize that in process based grading Tannehill could make a perfect QB play and the result could still be an incompletion or interception because of the fault of the receiver? Or another player?
Everything I've read about Tannehill from experts, since I personally didn't watch Tannehill last year, is that he's got all the talent in the world. The PFF rating reflects solely his performance as a QB independently of his surroundings. That's why his ranking =/= his perception.

Right because when you are listing a top 10 anything the last few picks are always the controversial ones. Grow up.Mulva;1638934 wrote:That whole 8-10 was just one giant LOL

For the record I don't think Tannehill is top 5, but I have to respect PFF and their grading system.

I've heard mostly positives about Tannehill and that he could be the real deal but I just don't see him ahead of Brady & Rodgers.lhslep134;1638935 wrote:Be completely honest: how many times did you watch Tannehill last year? Because you're placing an emphasis on the result and not the process. That's not even a bad thing, because at the end of the day the result carries the flag.BR1986FB;1638940 wrote:I've heard mostly positives about Tannehill and that he could be the real deal but I just don't see him ahead of Brady & Rodgers.
I know Brady slipped as a passer last year because I lived with a Patriots fan and saw a ton of their games (obviously not the ones against the Dolphins or I would have seen Tannehill play). I was surprised to see Rodgers grade out to only a 15.0 passing.
