Honestly I respect Belly, he fought for our country, seems he has been successful in work and family. However he is way off base on this one. I'm not even sure how someone can go down that road unless they are trolling.

What we have is a dead dad, bad situation and a poor judgement...
blame because he a cop is wrong, blame because he old is wrong, blame because he was legally carrying a weapon is wrong, this cop this retired cop in his career has done more thing right than wrong but this day he made his worst mistake. Many time we are quick to throw people under the bus without compassion for past deeds. The cop should have his day in court and the law that he up held at one time will be his judgement.
Young wife and daughter will never see the guy they loved ever again and the devastation of this situation will be forever. As a dad and family man I understand this pain and loss.

Apparently you don't understand the pain and loss because you seem to think it's necessary to keep mentioning that "both were in the wrong". If I throw my gum on the sidewalk I'm an asshole, but if someone sees me do that and kills me for it you can skip mentioning that I threw my gum on the ground because the important thing is that someone murdered me.

Also you keep saying that we're too quick to throw the ex-cop under the bus, well you're too quick to put him up on a pedestal. You don't know that he did any good deeds as a cop or if he was a shitty corrupt, violent douche of a cop. He could have been a great cop, he could also have been a prick.

Either way the guy murdered someone for throwing popcorn at him. That's not something defensible, he's not a good guy because good guys do not murder people. This isn't even something like the Zimmerman case where you can argue that he was fearful for his life or something. Dude got hit with some popcorn so he killed a person. This isn't a good guy with a gun story. It's a bad guy with a gun story. Yes, he had the gun legally but that doesn't change anything about the story.

That image was in my mind when you mentioned leaving your wife alone and chasing the burglars after they left your property. You say the guns are for safety yet you decided to leave your wife alone.
