CFL's screw right into the same socket as incandescents....cost is about $1.50 a bulb. I've used them for about 5 years in almost every socket in the house...I'd say the bulb last about 2-4 years compared to about 6 months for an incandescent. Dimmable CFL's cost about $5-8 a bulb and not as good as incandescents...that's about the only application where they may be better.

Price has dropped considerably in the past 1-2 years too from 1.50 per.

I paid 2.97 for an 8 pack of GE 60 watt equivalents at Sams Club this summer, and Menards had some other brand at 88 cents for a 4 pack last week.

It's easy to count what you have if you're organized and in your mind can move from room to room. I just counted the socket before I posted for curiosity.

Not if they don't know what I have in my warehouse and I don't invite them in ...

When goverment tell business what type of lighting is required, what I have to do to my building and what is best for me ... that where I draw the line. I built this business, I bought this building, I upgrade this structure, I prepared this building to function for my useage.. I did see the goverment coming around to help, to support or even to lean a handed.
Maybe I should send the goverment a invoice on what I have done to this building and the upgrades to restore this to a presentable structure for business. .... Because of this building and the location I pay taxes, employ people and create a sale tax that pays for the goverment to function ... Govermnet works for me and I'm boss... when more American understand this bacis princple and let the politician and goverment officals know this the better we all will be.

I'm at the point in my career and life where I can close down and walk away .. all I need is a season..

I would love to have the goverment come in and tell me to replace those lights... before he or she could finish I would tell everyone to go home we are closed for good.

Good to know you would take away your employees jobs just because the government wants you to do something.

I respect my employees and I feel bad for all those who I have to let go ... some of the best people in the world.
But this is where it at ... after years of regulation, restriction and government / banking line of credit (Global Financing),increase in taxes, import/export crap, and now for some business Obamacare as a small business owner where does it end? The government and clueless politicians has done more to hurt my growth and prosperity that any other factor.

Why do you keep acting like the government is coming into businesses and telling them they need to change lighting?

They don't. Instead they make one type illegal to manufacture. Not suggest companies use a type of bulb. MAKE THEM ILLEGAL TO MANUFACTURE.

So why did people cry about this in 2007 when Bush signed this into law? Either way the EPA isn't coming in and saying what type of lighting you need to use. There are an array of lighting types to choose from.

The fact is everyone is fine with using something that uses 4x the amount of electricity but hates paying higher electric prices. They also hate having coal firing plants and garbage dumps in their back yard but it is fine if it is in someone else's has to deal with it. Lighting is the easiest way of reducing electricity usage around the country since the average home uses 13% on electricity and the average business uses 21%.

I really don't understand why someone wouldn't put LEDs in their house since the average fixture lasts 23 years and uses much less energy.

So we shouldn't have any laws? They aren't taking away any fundamental rights.

So basically what I'm reading here is...

...you haven't even looked into this yourself. All your info seems come from a friend with a warehouse

This seems more about pushing a "personal political manifesto" than changing warehouse lights.

those that are with reason .. common sense is the best judgement
Pouring oil down a drain is wrong but having to build a inhouse recovery system is also crazy. Collecting it and sending out to be recoverd I can deal with that. Common Sense and Judgement

Laws are good but when goverment and clueless politians take those basic laws and cross over the line without knowledge and commom sense I draw the line. What I do is want I know better than anyone .... those lights work just fine, hurts no-one and when I restored the warehouse they where code... code then and code now ...
If I was to buy another building Ok I will do was what is required ... I have no problem with that

Re-investing in product development, researc, marketing and creative innovation to improve or re-design the market will make me more money in the long run I see the light I don't have to replace the light
.. and that will provide a bigger and newer build with code lighting.

save or making money seems to be the differences between me and you... you work at hum drum job collecting a pay check from the corporation that you bitch about. Entrepreneurs think different and their work is their passion and their pay check is of their making.

You save .. I make

Belly's posts make me laugh. He just effortlessly turned a "Imma not change my light bulbs because government!" rant into another "I'm better than you!" one.
