As the article states, 35+ years ago close to 60% of the games were not sold out and most of their revenue came from ticket sales.

I think this would be a good move, although it really hasnt affected me at all.

Tickets prices are outrageous

Damn, I actually learned something from visiting this site. I always thought this was purely a league rule.

I found it interesting a year or two ago the NFL gave clubs options of still keeping a blackout if it was not sold out, or if it was 85%. Mike Brown decided to keep the bengals at 100%
