You can definitely watch this one without seeing the "newer" ones Episodes 1, 2, and 3. However, if you aren't somewhat familiar with what happened in Episodes 4, 5, and 6 you maybe lost at times...possibly.
Okay, fuck it, mom can take him. Thanks for the help.

I finally saw the new star wars. I definitely liked it but I was hoping for something more. I don't know what exactly. I knew going in that I had super high expectations and they probably weren't going to be met. I'm also glad I read the spoilers ahead of time or I would have been pissed off at how easily Rey picked up the force. I kind of want to see it again and I can't wait for episode 8

I watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens yesterday. It was pretty good. Certainly better than Episodes 1-3. The story line was, as Laley mentioned, a little TOO repetitive, and as a not-so-avid viewer, there were parts that bothered me. All things considered, I probably give it a 7.5/10.

**********Possible Spoiler**********

Hated how Finn was so easily able to pick up a light saber and use it competently against Kylo Ren (sp?). I thought Jedis were supposed to have badass skills and shit.

Also, I called the part with Kylo Ren and his dad. That was kind of predictable.

In fact, all things considered, Kylo Ren turned out to be a pretty lame villain. His character felt like an angst-filled teen.

And did I see General Akbar, who hasn't aged a day? Maybe his race doesn't or something. That was weird, though.

Spoiler Alert

Kylo being shot by Chewbacca weakened him pretty bad. He was not at full strength and also hasn't completed his training yet.

I was not happy about Finn picking it up so "easily" either. But possibly since Luke never got to finish Kylo's training (the Supreme Leader mentioned that Kylo needed to come see him to finish his training) possibly Kylo was still a novice with a saber?

I know I read that Kylo's light saber looked very unstable for a reason, he built it himself while never having been trained how to do so like the old Jedi Order was.

Just some thoughts on why. Possibly Kylo had learned enough to move objects with the force and even read minds/Jedi mind tricks, but hadn't been well trained with a light saber yet?

Just thoughts, I am not a huge "Star Wars nerd" myself, just enjoyed the originals as a kid and hated the prequel trilogy like most.

Same here. I'm not THAT familiar with the stories, but I've seen the movies. Liked 4-6. Didn't care for 1-3, really, though I don't have the loathing for them that some of my more avid fan friends do. This one was definitely leaning more toward 4-6, so it was enjoyable. Just a couple little things that, at least for someone who doesn't get that involved in it, seemed a little disjointed. If I picked up a sword of some kind and went up against an injured person who, even if his training wasn't complete, had been into it for years, I'm pretty sure I'd get wrecked within seconds.

I don't know, if some guy had been shot in the gut even if he was trained with a sword I think I could take him...but only because he had been shot in the gut already before I started with him.

With regard to Finn being able to use the lightsaber I think that was the point of showing him do battle with another Storm Trooper - to show that the Storm Troopers are trained in using lightsaber like weapons so while he got whooped by Kylo Ren eventually, he was capable of holding his own for a little bit due to his Storm Trooper training.

As far as the girl picking stuff up so quickly, I presume we will find out in the next one that she is some kind super force sensitive savant.

Since we are talking spoilers, the group that I watched the movie with came away with the impression that Rae is Luke daughter and that she was hidden away at a young age on Jakku to protect her....the light saber triggers the unpleasant memories.

I started a thread. Is it possible a mod can move the spoiler posts to that thread? I don't know how hard that is

I was able to see The Hateful Eight yesterday in 70mm. It was fucking awesome 9.5/10. I am a huge QT fan and loved every minute. They even give you a playbill type booklet before the movie. The 10 minute intermission was actually nice to have in a 3 hour movie. I saw this with the wife and in laws. They all enjoyed it and they are not QT fans like I am. If you can make it to see the film in 70mm I highly recommend it.

i think we saw it at the Cinemark in Valley View.

I've been debating seeing it in 70mm. Leaning towards making it happen, every review in 70mm said it was a cool experience and worth the couple of extra bucks.

70 MM It is worth it IMO.

Anonymous is supposed to be releasing documents to help the guy in making a murder. All kinds of phone records and other stuff.

Been rewatching the Star Wars movies before I see the new one. Hadn't seen The Phantom Menace since it came out in '99. I never much liked Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith because of how much of a raging, horny douchebag Anakin plays.
