For some reason, it irritates the hell out of me when people refuse to try new foods. I like going to restaurants just to try stuff I've never had before. The worst is when someone says they don't like something, yet they have never tried it. What say you? Do you like to try new things or do you just stick to your staples.

I will try anything one time. I am not very squemish in general, so it's never been a problem. I think some people are much more sensitive and tend to gag with little provocation.

Kind of a mix. For my general day to day eating, I have a group of staple foods that are the basis of my diet.

But when I'm out and about, I love trying new things or new ways to prepare regular meals.

I'll try anything within reason. My favorite is when I talk about going to eat sushi, and someone says it's gross. Then you ask them if they've ever had it, and the answer is almost always no.

Yep, sushi is the biggest offender. People don't know that "sushi" is a very broad term. Most people assume it is all uncooked, which obviously isn't the case.

I try it if offered by a friend and it doesn't sound incredibly disgusting. I would not go to a restaurant and order a plate that I hadn't tried in the first instance.

Hard to believe in 2013 people still think sushi is gross, it is one of the most mainstream cuisines. I don't like all of it but for the most part I enjoy it.

Probably the craziest stuff I've eaten is bear and octopus - and that isn't too crazy.

I get the same thing at a lot of places but I'm going there because I'm in the mood for it. I do try new stuff though. I'm not a fan of most sushi I have found a few I like. But I always try a bite whenever my wife gets it.

MB, I agree octopus is delicious.

What is the difference, taste wise, between octopus and squid? Is there a discernible difference?

Sushi seems gross to me simply because it's seafood and I don't like seafood.

It's possible I'd actually like it, but will never give it a shot since I've hated almost all seafood I've tried.

If you put other stuff in front of me I'd probably try it.

Dunno if you dislike the "fishy" taste of seafood but clean, fresh sushi/sashimi should not taste like that

I don't venture too far from what I know I like.

I will not be eating bear anytime soon.

I will try anything.

I agree with the OP on that.

No one can cook a steak better than me.

It might be a tie, but not better.

I'll try anything once. I used to be a picky eater when I was a kid but I grew out of it, luckily.

Liver was the only thing in the world my grandpa didn't like. Outside of that he'd eat stuff to make a billy goat puke.

I love trying new things, no big deal if I don't like it but there's no fun in always playing it safe.

If something doesn't look good to me odds are im not going to try it. If something doesn't smell good to me there is a 0% chance I will try it. Im not very picky, just not into trying shit that doesn't look good.

Im the same way. I'd consider myself somewhat of a picky eater, though i have gotten a lot better. If it doesnt pass the look or smell test, chances are I am not trying it. Based upon past experiences, I have a pretty good idea of what I will and will not like.

Lol I'm not that bad. Just if something has a very noticeable smell that doesn't appeal to me I won't eat it.
