Not Memphis. Their program is garbage as is their team. They are a shell of what they once were. Even worse than the Marquette games the last few years ended up being.

You're right. We should just play NE Missouri state or something.

Memphis is a fine game to pickup. It worried about how good they are. It's perception of the schedule that is different with them on it

Memphis is undoubtedly a better game than the alternative

Which is what really matters. Especially with how poor osu schedules have been lately.

Yep, replacing a 300+ RPI team with a 150ish RPI team does WONDERS for your own RPI at seasons end. No reason for teams who don't suck to ever play teams that bad (cough cough, Indiana...)

Well, at least they are better than some of the alternative and aren't cheating as they used to with a certain head coach.

A program in shambles after their scummy, cheating coach leaves town...

Memphis is in shambles because they hired a terrible, terrible coach, who has done nothing but turn the entire city (one of the best HS talent pools in the nation) off to the school. And keep in mind, the ONLY thing Pastner had going for him was recruiting...and now he has created a program at Memphis where nobody wants to go. Why they suck 7 years post-Calipari has nothing to do with Calipari leaving. They suck because they hired the wrong guy and he has slowly eroded any clout they had in the sport.

Saw most of their annual scrimmage against Walsh on DVR Monday. KBD and Lyles looked very impressive. Defense didn't whatsoever. Hopefully getting Tate healthy will help a lot on that front. And getting the NCAA to get their thumbs out of their asses on Mitchell and his eligibility. Fucking douches.

Watched the game yesterday, and I think this team will actually be better than last years team. Giddens is already twice the player Amir was on both ends of the court. Lyle was impressive, and I though Harris played well in his time. I think we'll see those two on the court together a lot this season. Tate looks like he has developed a 3-point shot, which will make getting to the basket even easier. Grandstaff is a defensive liability, but if he cleans that up, the kid can shoot. This team could be pretty darn good by seasons end.

I think, for me, it'll take watching a performance or two against legitimate teams before I say they're better or worse. I mean, if their young guys show any real ability to improve as months go by, they'll wind up better than last year's team, since it was loaded with upperclassmen who were, more or less, the exact same player they were 2-3 years ago.

But I remember last year, when Loving and K. Williams looked strong against weak non-conference opposition, but were pretty ineffectual in the Big 10. They did some good stuff yesterday. I was impressed with Tate, who (true to his word) seems to have improved his shot a lot. Bates-Diop looks like he's taken a big step forward and both Lyles and Giddens showed a lot as freshmen. But, last year, they were usually pretty dominant against teams like that and struggled a lot against good programs. One thing is for sure -- they'll have to be better at taking care of the ball. Way too many turnovers, which is worrisome, since the tough non-conf teams they played last year had no trouble forcing turnovers with aggressive defense.

I was pleased with the defense, though, especially after giving up 80+ to Walsh in their scrimmage (without Tate, but still...). When you give a team that many extra possessions via turnovers and still hold them to 54, that is impressive.

Giddens goes basket to basket quicker than Amir Williams could go from one side of the lane to the other.

Amir Williams would have never let his team lose to UT-Arlington, that's for damn sure.

Gonna be a few of these I think. They're so young and have no leader. They have played really hard until tonight. Think they were thinking they were better than they are...

They suck at free throws and taking care of the ball. Might want to work on those things, as they'd have won if they had even been competent at the line or hadn't been committing turnovers. I was surprised they only had 13 last night -- it felt like more as the game was going on.

I was at a friend's and we were listening on the radio. The announcers were talking about how Thompson was being active and looking for the ball. Final line: one shot attempt, five turnovers. Pathetic. Other than Giddons, there is no post play there. Major teams shouldn't get murdered on the boards by someone from the Sun Belt.

Well, Texas Arlington just won at Memphis tonight. Ohio State/Memphis in the loser's bracket later this week.

It's not precisely a loser's bracket. This is like that tournament-like thing OSU has been in the last couple years where it's basically them and a bunch of mid-major-and-below teams. Each team plays 4 games and that's that. It's just that usually, the Bucks walk their way through it with one game maybe being a contest for 25-30 minutes.

It's kind of funny when you look at the schedule. All of OSU's first three opponents (Grambling, Tex Arlington and Louisiana Tech) are at home and the game with Memphis is on a neutral court. You know they set things up so that the OSU-Memphis game was the "championship", as it's on a neutral court (even though Memphis plays Louisiana Tech on the later date of Dec. 1) and nationally televised along with the Kentucky-USF game that's the marquee game of another one of those round-robin deals. http://www.hoophall.com/news/2015/5/21/naismith-memorial-basketball-hall-of-fame-announces-hall-of.html

Instead, Texas Arlington won against both, but lost to Louisiana Tech in their first game. If LT beats OSU and Memphis, the "championship" was about the first game played in this thing, lol. Or things can blow up, three teams finish 3-1 overall and everyone decides they all suck and no one deserves any awards.

I was just kidding about the loser's bracket part. I didn't realize it was actually an event thing.

This team plays hard. They are just too young together. These senior laden teams just lick their chops to play them.

Osu never led... LA tech hit some ridiculous shots all game and then late got every bounce. But they earned it too, they hustled and ran their stuff. Played with a ton of confidence.
