Why would I go to Kroger and pay more for the same products?

But Wal-mart is enough bigger than Kroger's that it doesn't bother me. Kroger's are always so busy.

I've heard a lot of good things about Andersons, but never been to one. I don't have one conveniently close to me.

If you look at the video of this, there were carts filled with nothing but flat-screen TVs and computers. Unless some of these people really do eat electronics for dinner, then they should be held responsible for abusing the system and made to pay back what they stole.

And yeah, Wal-Mart is pure trash. They don't even offer brand-names in many food items. Meijer is far superior, but I prefer Kroger, The Anderson's or Walt Churchill's Market for groceries.

If you watch the video, the people were -- or at least trying -- to do it. I think you can buy pretty much anything you want with your card, right? Or wel-fare cards. When I went to visit my friend at Mount Union once in college, he took me to Wally World on the 1st of the Month (apparently that's a must-see attraction in Alliance for students). Bone Thugs-N-Harmony weren't kidding. It was a fucking circus. It looked like a game of bumper cars with all the carts crashing into each other with mountains of shit inside.

Maybe it's a different program - I thought you couldn't even purchase cigarettes or alcohol with these cards. Nor are you supposed to be able to get cash back (which is a scam that occasionally has sting ops of mom & pop convenience stores).

But it's all sort of comical - it's just fungible money. If they allowed such purchases we could use the data to get a better sense of what the right benefit amount is, and perhaps even who shouldn't be qualified.

Yeah, could be a different program. Not sure. I just saw it reported on the news and video was shown of carts carrying televisions. Regardless, the people who spent more than they obviously could have had available on their cards need to be held responsible.

Not with EBT no. Has to be food items and can't be any hot foods.

Can't be hot foods? Like no hamburger meat or any other type of meat you must cook? Interesting.

I'll chalk it up as the media sensationalizing the story, then.

This. You can't go to Giant Eagle and spend your EBT on ribs and fried chicken.

Hopefully, better than Krogers. I mean, their's tastes good and all, but I always seem to have this sort of mild queasy feeling after eating their deli/rotisserie chicken, which I don't get from ANY restaurant stuff, from BW3 to KFC.

Not sure how it works in Ohio, but in Virginia EBT for food stamps cannot be exchanged for cash and can be used at participating stores for food to be consumed at "home" (home being not int he store) - the temperature of the food doesn't matter. So unless Giant/Kroger/Harris Teeter has a separate eating area, which most don't, the hot food area can be accessed via the EBT card. That includes non-alcoholic drinks as well. So you can go to the fridge and grab a 20 oz. coke and swig it outside the store and still pay for it with the EBT.

For unemployment benefits the card can be used for any product or service that accepts credit cards - and can be exchanged for cash at a participating bank.
