You'll most likely save $55 the first trip Sparky. Especially if you buy any kind of merchandise other than justo groceries. BTW...I've never seen fresh clams or crayfish at SAMs but Costco had them often.

Costco member in Chicago here ... love 'em. Nice selection of pretty quality stuff (even the store-brand stuff is good).

If you only go there for stuff like paper towels and toilet paper, you probably won't save the membership fee. But if you get meat, beer/wine, bread there on a somewhat frequent basis you will almost certainly make savings over the course of a year. Clear a bunch of room in the freezer and freeze a lot of the stuff you get (including the bread!).

Also, tires. You will save a bunch on tires going through a warehouse store.

Best thing about a Sam's Club membership is the gas savings. Can save at least $5 a week on gas, so a $40 membership can save you a couple hundred dollars a year just in gas. Of course, if you're not somewhere where it's not out of the way, it doesn't really matter.

The only think I think is that I feel you do tend to overbuy at these places. Unless you really have a large family, then buying in bulk can be beneficial. But if there is just 2 or 3 of you, then I think you tend to impulsive buy and you end up spending more in the long run.

I think you do tend to overbuy at these places. Unless you really have a large family, then buying in bulk can be beneficial. But if there is just 2 or 3 of you, then I think you tend to impulsive buy and you end up spending more in the long run.

pretty much agree with this...mostly i just buy things like detergent/papertowels and such or large ticket items that are good deals

Agree for the most part. My family (3) does buy eggs because we go through 2-3 dozen a week.
