Wife and I are looking to join one of the two, and probably only for a once-a-month trip. Which would be better, in your professional opinions?

I voted the 3rd option since I obviously have no opinion on the first two.

Both are the same shit. I would just go with whatever has the cheaper membership.

So there really is no distinguishable difference between Sam's/Costco, besides the name? Does one sell produce while the other doesn't? Are there any distinct characteristics of each that set them apart from one another?

The both are pretty damn identical. Large warehouse selling groceries, supplies, and (insert whatever else you can get at a regular grocery store) in bulk. They also sell electronics. It's not worth paying the extra 10 bucks for Costco (unless it is much closer to you). It would be like paying for your kids to go to private school, when the public school in the area has the same quality of education or better.

I like Costco. Kirkland is good shit, while Sam's brand is just the same generic shit you can buy at Wal Mart.

Yeah, but what if CCRunner is teaching at the public school? I'd pay whatever is necessary to get my kid out of that situation.

Right now, the vote is in favor of Costco, 3-0. Belly voted for Sam's Club, but I never listen to a word Belly (tries to) says.

i have purchased steaks, ribs, and pulled pork from cotsco an it was of surprising quality for the price...other than that i thought sams was better for the things i buy. big ticket items i would give cotsco the edge tho. lately i have been finding better deals at walmart

We get a Costco membership every year for Christmas. We don't use it a ton but they do have some great deals. And I agree with LJ, the Kirkland brand has some good stuff.

No Costco near me (here and where I grew up), so we always had a Sam's membership. I have always been a fan. I don't think their store-brand stuff is bad at all. You can get good meat and produce there, and the pizza and baked goods are also bomb dot com.

Closest one for us will be at least a 30 minute drive. I don't see us going there more than 2x per month. Big thing is... will we save $55/year by getting a membership?
