Which makes the Ubaldo deal seem even better...the O's got a mediocre pitcher for only $12 million !

It really looks like extending Masterson is a pipe dream....looks like the Tribe is going to get another extra 1st round pick next year too.

The Bailey deal is the kind of thing you get stuck with if your the Tribe and you decide to be passive as an organization and let other teams set the market.

If they had extended Masterson already, it likely could have been done for 5/70-75, but they dragged their feet and let a competitor set the market.

If you are low on resources like the Dolan's you have to be more aggressive in trying to get extensions signed early where you are establishing the market for comps instead of being a slave to it like they will be now that the Bailey deal is out there.

Only the player and salary are incorrect in this post.

Ubaldo's deal is only for 4 years too. A horribe risk by Baltimore in guaranteeing this clown 48 mil. But...the Homer deal is just about the worst waste of resources in the history of baseball. Homer...with his lifetime ERA wayyy above 4..

Usually Dolan signsextensions early. Not this time around. If Homer Bailey commands that kind of money, then what is Clayton Kershaw worth? Even Masterson should get 25 million per year if comparing his numbers to Bailey.

But let's not act like even if the salaries were more "normal" that Dolan would pay them. If the average salary was $5 he'd still not budge above $3

They did the same thing with C.C....."waiting for the market to establish his value". By the time that happens the player isway out of our price range. The next time we hear that out of the front office, read it as 'we have no chance to sign this guy so we are making other plans'.

The only way they can get guys to sign extensions is if they overpay them for at least 1 or more arbitration year in the hopes of them signing to a reasonable deal that allows us longer control. The team should probably turn there attention to Kipnis.

The Orioles continued their shopping spree landing free agent OF Nelson Cruz for a 1 year $8 million deal.

Ovechkin isn't in the top 5 of nhl salaries. So highest paid = wrong and amount for the highest = wrong.

The Tribe and Jason Kipnis are talking extension. Kipnis will be eligible for arbitration for the first time next year, and the Tribe has control thru the 2017 season.

The Tribe opens Cactus league play Wewdnesday at 3:05.

Carlos Santana has looked pretty good at 3rd during drills....the best test will come during the games this spring.

Tribe lose. I don't put too much stock into anything that happens this early in spring. Guys are working on a lot of different things. But the things I do want to see are guys improving on major issues they were facing.

For example, Trevor Bauer. I don't mind if he gets hit a little bit. But I would really like to see him pitching efficiently and throwing strikes. In his single inning of work today, he managed to walk two hitters. He will never make it at this level if he can't correct that.

^^^Same M.O. for Bauer as last season....walk guys then pitch out of the jam. Reds blew the game open against Hynes , C.C. Lee, and Ramirez.

Carlos Santana will start at third tomorrow.

Bauer looked flat out filthy though when he hit the strike zone. He will have some control issues at first due to his different mechanics until his muscle memory kicks in. If he can throw strikes he honestly could make or break our season if he can be the player everyone thought he could

Justin Masterson pitched a scoreless inning today, Cory Kluber didn't, and Carlos Santana made a successful debut at 3rd today as the Tribe was whipping the Reds 12-3 in the bottom of the ninth.....

Tribe a winner today 4-0... as multiple pitchers turned in good performances, including ZacMac, Tomlin, Allen and Axford.
The Tribe had only 4 hits today but Raburn knocked in 2.
Nyger Morgan turned in a defensive gem in CF.

Justin Masterson said yesterday in a post game interview that he thought some progress was being made in efforts to get him to sign an extension.

Francisco Lindor hit a 3-run dinger, Jason Kipnis tripled home Nick Swisher, and Michael Brantley was 3 for 3 in the Indians 6-3 victory over Seattle. Carlos Santana had a throwing error at 3rd. Trvcor Bauer gave up 2 runs in 2 IP.

In a minor deal, the Tribe acquired utility INF Justin Sellers from the Dodgers for cash.....DFAing David Cooper who was obtained in the off season to make room on the roster.

Im obviously a huge Indians fan, but one of my good friend Chris Bassitt pitches for the White Sox, he played in double A last year and absolutely tore it up. This year he got the invite for spring training ball with the big boys. So on Saturday I head down to Glendale and looking forward to watching him. They are hoping he will be a solid end of the rotation guy.

I know it was totally off subject.

Was listening to the game in the car today when Lindor hit his 3 run homer. If his hitting is really coming around I can't see how he doesn't make the big roster this year. I am sure there is some kind of plan as far as making sure they maximize his time in the minors before the service time clock starts, but I would love to see a guy like that on the big league club. Only 20 years old he would bring alot of energy to this team.

I saw they are wearing T-Shirts with the phrase "unfinished business" relating to last year. Probably explains why they didn't add to the roster at all, they figure this group underachieved last year and will reach their potential this year.
