Umps meeting to decide how the fuck to change it without Matheny going all George Brett pine tar on them.
May have been one of the worst calls I have seen. The fielder had extremely poor fundamentals as his throwing hand was way down by his waist leaving the ump really with no other call other than safe, but the fucker blew it anyways. I could see if his hand was right by the glove to make it look much different but man it wasnt.

It was one of those "automatic" calls like 3-0 count or the area play on a double play. He pretty much predertimed what he was gonna call.

If I talk to Jim Joyce next year I will have to ask him what Matheny was saying. You could see him saying "mike, mike...".

Glad they got it right though, and Matheny had no other option but go out and bitch even though it was the right call.

I would expect any manager to go out and argue a play like that where they change a call like they did. If the umpire 10 feet away in the perfect position cannot make the right call, then how can the other umps out of position and further away do so?

It had more to do with that, defending his team, and setting the tone. You don twant a manager to idly sit by and not argue shit like this.

Video replay needs to be added immediately for all calls. We cannot have bad calls like this deciding games

I wouldnt go that far. 3.5 hour game would last close to 5 hours.

Next year they are adding more replay in, and maybe a challenge system.

Have to wonder about the 'area' play on double plays at second base...

Didn't need it but Shane Victorino's hustle was refreshing to see on what would've been an inside the park HR had Ellsbury ran into the wall.

That "jump" Pedroia does is stupid and doesn't help him anymore than the creep-steps that every baseball player takes. It almost made him too late.

Defensive lapses big keys in both games. I know with the Beltran hit, it is a moot point, but shouldn't the bad throw into the left field seats allowed the 4th run to score?

Big job by Martinez. Rosenthal will bring his flame-thrower arm in the ninth.

Cards got what they wanted, a split in Boston. Rosenthal made pretty "fast" work of the Bosox in the ninth.

maybe because they aren't incompetent? I don't care about either team, or MLB much in general but that was the worst call I've seen in any sport in some time.

Yes, when the occasion calls for it.

Just like all 647 people that actually watched a boring MLB game should be upset that an umpire couldn't make the correct call that a t-ball umpire would make.

It is astonishing to see how big of an ego a lot of these older guys have. As a newer football ref whenever I see an obvious call and the old fuck completely misses it, like one where this guy at the R position was watching towards the sideline with me and the QB was just smoked a few seconds after throwing it. Well after the series he was telling me how I need to be more downfield cause I was "out of position", yet the receiver was only 5 yards downfield running on a short corner route and I was actually a couple yards downfield of him. Lol I know it's HS football but what I'm trying to say is it seems obvious that there are quite a few veterans who truly believe they can do no wrong
