No they don't, it is a bullshit statistic taken from too small a sample to be of any importance. I have been divorced and they had no clue if I did or did not live with partner before we were married.

) that cohabitation itself isn't the cause - it's more likely that those who live together first are also more inclined to stray or split to begin with.
Bear in mind that a tendency means that there will still be plenty of examples to the contrary. I would guess that "when" and "why" a couple moves in together before marriage would be a huge clue - one of my sisters-in-law (married to husband #6 at age 46) tends to move in with a new guy every time she gets a few weeks behind in the rent.
