He did use Lilly of the Valley. Saul had Huell pickpocket Jesse of the Ricin back then. Jesse suspected that, but Walt was able to convince him that wasn't the case and the Gus has poisoned him.

When Jesse realized that the same thing just happened with the weed, he put 2 and 2 together.

It's a bit of a stretch the Jesse realizes what really happened with Huell lifting his pot, but I guess they had to do it somehow.

Walt seems to be more of master "fixer" rather than some elaborate schemer (which really makes the whole ricin thing implausibly and unnecessarily intricate).

Just like with Hank - I don't think Walt planned to use paying for the medical bills (thought he was against it initially, anyway). But now when Hank becomes a problem Walt is able to piece together a fix. (and, by the way, WELL PLAYED Heisenberg).

Besides being a stretch, I just thought it was stupid because how does Jesse have this epiphany of Walt manipulating him when A) Brock wasn't poisoned with ricin and B) he and Walt found the vial.

I guess I didn't understand that whole sequence as intended - never really saw the missing ricin cig as so critical to Jesse's manipulation. I guess maybe Jesse had to blame himself so that he would NEED to be at the hospital, creating the opportunity for a divide with Gustavo demanding to keep to the schedule.

Yea, Jesse's epiphany was definitely a stretch, which is why I think it was confusing to a lot of people.

You know what else was kind of stupid? The guy wiping blood off his shoe and the papertowel doesn't flush, as if that's supposed to be some sort of potential breadcrumb.

Oh ok.. I just assumed the way Jesse lit up in his office that that was foreshadowing he was going to smoke the ricin... Either way, like you said.. it's a reach to come to that conclusion.

It may have been a bit of a reach, but I thought this episode was a helluva lot better than last weeks.

Walt planted and found a fake vial in jesses vacuum if I remember correctly and jesse doesn't know that it was lilly of the valley right? Didn't he go into the hospital and tell the doctors it was ricin which led to him being investigated?

I think everyone is trying really hard to read something into every little detail, and trying even harder to guess what is going to happen. I am the opposite. I remember most of the details of the previous seasons, but I am not going to drive myself crazy trying to figure out what every single thing means. I don't care that Jesse's epiphany seemed "weak"...to me, it served it's purpose. I am just going to sit back and enjoy the remaining episodes. I don't need or want to try to guess how it ends.

Most likely, but he did it (season 5) after Jesse was told Brock suffered from exposure to Lily of the Valley (season 4). I enjoyed the episode but as many people mentioned, that epiphany was a bit hard to swallow, and seemed like a plot device to get them against each other again. I even read somewhere that Gilligan's initial idea wasn't this, they just decided to go this route when they were told the series would be extended beyond season 4.

Gotta admit, probably should have seen that coming but I didn't. I thought when Walt made the tape he was about to fake his death or go on the run.

Hank's reaction was classic too. We're all blown away by everything in that video, but I think all Hank heard was "$177k?!?" But Walt really did a great job of laying it all out for Hank why he had a lot more to worry about than just losing his job.

Yes the confession tape was pure genius.

It is genius that one of the few things Walt said that was true (or at least partially true) re paying Hank's medical bill is the piece that destroys Hank's "lack of case" unless they go down with him.

I didn't think Jesse realizing what happened was a stretch. He had initially thought Walt was the one who did it and thought he took the ricin from him before Walt convinced him it was Gus. When he realized that Huell took his weed he very well could have realized that he could have taken the cigarettes too and then put it together.

It is still completely convoluted. Plus, why did he scream at Saul that the ricin was used to hurt Brock when he knew it didn't? Seemed like very sloppy writing.

And the set-up wasn't that great. So a guy that is going to take Jesse away for $125,000 cash gives a crap that he has a (very small) bag of weed on him, that Saul cares enough that he tells Huell (in the 4 seconds he is offscreen) where the bag is (and we can see Huell take it), not knowing whether Jesse has another bag in his back pocket? What is Saul's motivation? If this guy is that dangerous just have Huell take it from Jesse physically.

It wouldn't be the first contrived plot point in the show's history - Mike's willing to put his guys in danger to try to make Jesse feel like a hero was contrived. But this was much more so, like trying to connect dots that even the viewer has trouble connecting, yet Jesse does so in 3 seconds?

I still enjoyed the episode. But, yeah, it was a huge, huge stretch for him to figure it out so quickly.

New episode this evening, title is "Rabid Dog." Who is the rabid dog and will someone die?

BTW the more I think about I really hate the lottery ticket thing. We all know it will get lost or destroyed and although we know Walt screws up a lot, there are dozens of ways to have evidenced the coordinates than putting it on an easily destroyed piece of paper in plain view on the refrigerator.

Obviously Jesse is a rabid dog. And what do you do with rabid dogs?

Or it may be quite literal just to keep us guessing. But there are, what - 3 or 4 shows left counting tonight? However Walt going back for the ricin makes me think Jesse is in it until the end (although Hank smokes cigars).
