I'm not a fan of the phrase, but that's a pretty big fail.

Life can be pretty cruel. Damn.

According to the story, the night that they drove their van into the sea there was extreme winds, heavy rains and dense fog. Pulling over apparently was not an option. When you're in a hurry, you don't have time for stuff like that.

They weren't even able to get out of the van after it went into the water? I'm guessing they were far more disoriented from being lost hiking than recognized, and that probably contributed to driving off the boat ramp as well as being unable to get out of the car.

I was thinking the same thing, but they sank 125 ft. I'm not an expert but wouldn't the pressure of being that deep cause some serious problems?

Said the van likely floated to there (175 feet off shore, I saw nothing about how deep they were). They drove off a boat ramp, not off the end of some pier into deep water.

But even then, to choose certain death by staying inside the van? And I'm sure the dog could swim.
